Job description

Position Summary

Within the context of a client and family centered model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Northern Health, the person promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.

Reporting to the Manager or designate, in alignment with the creation of a vibrant community and working in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the LPN Coordinator is responsible for providing first line supervision to LPN nursing staff and unregulated care staff and providing nursing care to an assigned group of residents / patients / clients according to established policies and procedures and the Standards of Practice for the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The LPN Coordinator coordinates the work of the LPN and unregulated care staff on the unit(s) including making and adjusting work assignments, providing work direction, scheduling staff, monitoring and following up on the work of staff to ensure outcomes of care are achieved and ongoing evaluation of staff work.

Shift Rotation / Hours of work : Monday to Friday, Days, 08 : 00 to 16 : 30

Fort Nelson is located in the northernmost reaches of the Rocky Mountains, has magnificent scenery and landscapes. The main industries are forestry, natural gas, transportation and tourism. The population is approximately 3,370. There are now three elementary schools and one secondary school. Fort Nelson is a charming and friendly community with genuine personality. The importance of the Alaska Highway is immediately evident and the town itself is built around the highway, with the museum, gas stations, shopping, restaurants, accommodations and services spread along its route.     Qualfications

  • Graduation from an approved school in Practical Nursing. Two (2) years' recent, related clinical and / or supervisory experience in a community health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff, and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
  • Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote client-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
  • Management – Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
  • Leadership – Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk-taking, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
  • Knowledge Integration – Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts, and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
