Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Instructors will be responsible for monitoring or planning and delivering instructional sport programs to participants. They will be directly involved in the implementation and delivery of age-appropriate activities, ensure participant safety and engagement, follow policies and procedures, and work effectively with all staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement and actively supervise in planned activities.
- Ensure there are a variety of activities in the program related to the type of activity being taught.
- Plan and organize all classes with daily lesson plans.
- Work with volunteers to ensure they are included in the programs and have various responsibilities.
- Ensure participant safety and security throughout the program
- Communicate and interact with participants and make everyone feel welcome
Report to work in sufficient time to ensure the program is ready to start on time.
Assist in finding class coverage if unable to teach assigned class.Provide a list of supplies / equipment and set up needs required for the program to the Program CoordinatorSupervise all aspects of the program including participants and volunteers.Complete and submit all necessary paperwork in a timely manner (e.g. attendance records, drop in sheets, list of hours worked, etc.Ensure the safety of participants, facilities and equipment at all times.Assist the Program Coordinator with delivering program evaluations to participantsWith the assistance of the integration team, modify activities to ensure participants with disabilities are able to participate in programs and be fully integrated into the program setting.Wear assigned uniform / name tagAttend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions prior to, during and outside regular programming hours.Maintain all current certifications and send updated copies to your supervisorMaintain excellent public relations at all times.Maintain good communication with staff and volunteers, facility users, and the Program Coordinator.Understand and implement the policies and procedures of the Facility(s), and of the Community Services Department.Represent the City of Richmond Hill in a cooperative, organized, enthusiastic and well-groomed manner.Perform other duties as assignedDuties and Responsibilities Cont'd (if applicable)
Education and Experience
High Five PHCD Certification is required if working with participants ages 4 – 12 yearsEmergency First Aid and CPR-B certification (Standard First Aid and CPR C for on ice programs)NCCP / Coaching Certification and / or equivalent is considered an assetMinimum age of 15 yearsMinimum 1 year experience related to the type of activity being taught is preferredRequired Skills / Knowledge
