REINTEGRATION NAVIGATOR POSITION
Job Type : Full time : 8 : 30am – 4 : 30pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility
Location : Brandon Correctional Centre, John Howard Society of Brandon and the Transitional Housing and Healing Program in Brandon.
Salary : $25.00 – $28.00, Pension and Benefits after Probationary Period

Job Summary
Under the supervision of both the Program Manager and the Executive Director of The John Howard Society of Brandon, the Reintegration Navigator serves as a consistent and reliable presence at Brandon Correctional Centre (BCC) for individuals both during incarceration and throughout their transition back into the community. The Reintegration Navigator supports offenders by helping them connect with appropriate services, offering guidance, and maintaining regular contact to ensure they remain supported and meaningfully connected as they reintegrate into the community of Brandon.
This role includes assisting individuals in navigating the carceral experience, providing advocacy when required, delivering informational and release-focused programming, and supporting release planning. The Reintegration Navigator also facilitates connections to community resources and provides relevant information and support to Custody Centre staff to promote successful release and reintegration. In addition, the Reintegration Navigator is responsible for completing intakes, referrals, and connections for the Transitional Housing and Healing Program (THHP).
The goal of the Reintegration Navigator position at the John Howard Society of Brandon is to enhance community reintegration and navigate the gaps in release from provincial corrections by ensuring coordinated services to support individuals re-entering the Community, which may include housing, addictions recovery needs, physical and mental health supports, including providing referrals to culturally appropriate agencies, programs and services, while maintaining compliance with the Brandon Correctional Centre safety policies and procedures of operations.
Job Duties
- Act as the primary contact for JHSB at BCC regarding community resources.
- Receive, review, and forward referrals to service providers within the Centre or within the Community.
- Complete intake meetings and participate in team meetings at BCC, Transitional Housing and at the John Howard Society.
- Attend case conferencing meetings on release planning from custody as required.
- Conduct needs assessments and HIFIS entries for release planning and Transitional Housing and Healing Program.
- Assist inmates and correctional staff with identification applications, federal and provincial benefits applications, and connect them to community resources.
- Support coordinated case management at BCC and community agencies.
- Facilitate Ready 4 Release and / or Crossroads Program at Brandon Correctional Centre.
- Facilitate JHS core programs, post-incarceration support groups or follow-up support, which may include family support groups for those that have incarcerated individuals.
- Participate in THHP duties which may include move‑in assistance, intake support, and programming.
- Collaborate and provide coverage for the Program Manager duties while in their absence as well as provide coverage at the THHP, if needed.
- Collaborate with Men’s Resource Centre and provide coverage as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum 2 years experience working in a social service setting with vulnerable populations required; a combination of work, life and educational experience will be considered.Experience working directly with incarcerated individuals, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system will be considered an asset.Knowledge of the legacy and the impacts of colonialism including the overrepresentation of Indigenous Peoples in the criminal justice systems.Demonstrated appreciation for and dedication to cultural sensitivity.Demonstrates an understanding of staff ranks, organizational structure, and the chain of command within a Correctional Centre, including appropriate reporting lines.Ability to maintain positive professional boundaries without imposing personal judgements and expectations on clients.Understand dynamic, acute risk factors and the root causes of crime.Demonstrated ability to provide trauma‑informed care and support to vulnerable populations.Comfortable working in a custody institution, with offenders and Correctional Centre Management and Staff.Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment, remain calm and poised in urgent situations, prioritize and manage conflicting demands.Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.Experience in program facilitation, especially within a residential or correctional facility will be considered an asset.Completion of Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, NVCI desired.Must successfully complete criminal record check, child abuse registry, and adult abuse registry checks, as well as an enhanced security screening / reliability clearance for Provincial and Federal Corrections.Work Conditions and Requirements
