Academic Cardiologist with expertise in Echocardiography

The Division of Cardiology within the Department of Medicine at Queen’s University invites applications for the position of Academic Cardiologist. This is a Clinician Scholar role and the successful incumbent’s time will be heavily focused on clinical service in the fields of General Cardiology, Echocardiography and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.

The Division of Cardiology provides clinical care to a large catchment area with specialty clinics and has three active subspecialty training programs (Adult Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Echocardiography).

The successful incumbent will also be required to attend on the inpatient Cardiology services (Cardiac Sciences Unit, Consults, Cardiology Ward), including evening and weekend call, as well as cover the outpatient general clinic / stress testing as required. The successful candidate will have expertise in echocardiography (level III) and be expected to provide coverage in the Echocardiography laboratory by supervising, performing, and interpreting inpatient and outpatient transesophageal, transthoracic, and stress echo studies. Experience in management of adult congenital heart disease is required. In addition, there will be an expectation to contribute to the administrative and research goals of the Division of Cardiology, the Department of Medicine, the University, and the hospitals. Protected research time may be considered for an appropriate candidate at the discretion of the Division Chief.

The successful candidate will have major clinical responsibilities and will be expected to demonstrate exemplary clinical service and must also demonstrate strong potential for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A strong potential for innovative scholarly contributions (in research, quality assurance, and / or education) is also required. The successful candidate must also demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent). Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Cardiology by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Applicants must possess expertise, training, and experience in echocardiography and adult congenital heart disease.
