The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute is the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital – one of Canada’s largest learning and research hospitals. We are proudly affiliated with the University of Ottawa and supported by The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. With more than 2200 scientists, clinician investigators, trainees and staff, and total revenues of more than $120 million, we are one of the foremost Canadian hospital-based research institutes. Our research spans more than a hundred different diseases, conditions, and specialties with an overall focus on translating discoveries and knowledge into better health.
Job Description
We are looking for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Masters or PhD student in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine to join our research team. Our research focuses on delineating molecular / cellular mechanisms that regulate neural stem cell reprograming and differentiation, with the goal of defining ways to recruit the stem cells that are resident in the brains or are derived from non-neuronal cells, and to thereby potentially promote neural repair. We are currently using stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and autism as brain disease models to explore underlying molecular mechanisms. A variety of molecular, cellular, biochemical, and behavioral techniques are used in the laboratory, including transgenic mouse models, in vivo neurodegenerative disease model, human iPSC-derived NPC culture, and single cell RNA-seq approaches etc.
