- CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST – Eating Disorders Program
CHEO, a 167-bed pediatric hospital in Ottawa, ON, Canada is seeking a child and adolescent psychiatrist to work in the Eating Disorders Program. The job is full-time and permanent, and will lead to membership in the CHEO Psychiatry Associates Partnership.
Academic Setting and DutiesThe large multidisciplinary care team for the CHEO Eating Disorders Program comprises psychiatrists, adolescent health physicians, nurse practitioners, dieticians, nurses, child and youth counselors, psychometrist, psychologists, and social workers. There is a 10-bed eating disorders inpatient unit, a partial hospitalization program, a day treatment program and an outpatient service.The duties for this position include assessment and ongoing psychiatric care for children, youth and their families, consisting of pharmacological treatments and supporting the psychotherapeutic work provided by allied health team members. As a member of the CHEO Department of Psychiatry faculty, the person in this job will take CHEO call, teach medical learners, and engage in scholarly work, all of which are finacially incentivized. A mentorship system is in place to enhance promotion.Required SkillsThe successful candidate will have education or experience in evidence-based psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic approaches for the treatment of eating disorders in children and adolescents. Training in Family Based Therapy and Emotion Focused Family Therapy for eating disorders is desirable, but not a requirement. If necessary, training in these modalities will be provided. The candidate should enjoy working in an environment where continuous quality improvement is a key feature of the daily work. Bilingualism (English / French) is desirable, although not a requirement.TrainingMD from an accredited institution; certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent; career characteristics meeting the criteria for a faculty appointment in the uOttawa Department of Psychiatry.Remuneration and BenefitsThis position will be well remunerated in alignment with other psychiatry positions at CHEO. The position provides 6 weeks paid vacation; 2 weeks paid conference time; and protected time for academic work, quality improvement, and education.
