Acumen Health is a team of Private Orthopedic Surgeons, Certified Athletic Therapists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, and Kinesiologists. We have created a one-of-a-kind, all-encompassing sports medicine practice that can facilitate an individual's entire care from baseline / fitness / pre-performance testing, mobility assessments, strength assessments, independent medical evaluations, injury diagnosis, surgery, post-operative care and recovery.
At Acumen, the Kinesiologist is responsible for providing programming and coaching that includes but is not limited to motivation, education, and guidance on proper nutrition, conditioning, resistance training, mobility, and recovery to help clients develop to the best of their ability and rehabilitate from musculoskeletal injuries.
Roles and Responsibilities :
- Reporting operationally to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager, and functionally to the Acumen COO, CEO and Owner / Founder.
- Champion mutually dependent relationships within the Acumen Health and Reconditioning team.
- Promptly convey all pertinent information to the Acumen Reconditioning Manager while actively participating in periodic meetings and reporting.
- Ensuring that all training, exercise, rehabilitation, and health care administration is delivered at the highest possible standard, while relevant to the functional demand of our patients and environment.
- Stimulating and fostering close functional relationships with the Acumen Performance and Reconditioning team and other Acumen Health team members in establishing and implementing programs directed at the prevention of injury, performance enhancement, and post-operative rehabilitation.
- Achieve optimal patient-centric outcomes, relevant to a patient’s specific needs.
- Make recommendations for referral, both within Acumen Health, and externally when deemed appropriate.
- Defensible documentation : Ensuring that all medical information, interactions, and interventions are documented and communicated as per medico-legal and British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) specific requirements.
- Active participant and contributor to departmental in-services geared at knowledge exchange and information retention as pertaining to the Acumen Reconditioning and Performance teams.
- Collaboration with the Acumen Performance team to create moments of exchange for feedback and problem-solving regarding strength and conditioning and performance support.
- Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for in-season, off-season, and preseason for male and female athletics in a manner that reflects research driven practices and our company’s Long-Term Athletic / Fitness Development Model.
- Transcribe medical notes while attending and actively participating in orthopedic consultations and follow-up appointments as directed by one of our orthopedic surgeons.
- Implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program in accordance with company standards and guidelines.
- Successfully complete training and educational courses as required.
- B.S. in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or Human Performance required.
- Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications.
- Strong working knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of strength training.
- Experience and / or expertise in strength and conditioning programming for the general population, athletes, and rehabilitation populations.
- Utilization of, including but not limited to Sales Force electronic medical records, while making sure patient-provider confidentiality is adhered to.
- Evidence of ability to interact positively with athletes, clients, colleagues, and the public.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Police background check to be completed upon hiring.
- Occasional out of town travel required to Acumen Health locations outside of Kelowna (Calgary, Edmonton, Langley, Montréal, and Vancouver).
Qualifications :
Registered Kinesiologist that has maintained membership status with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists.A current relevant professional certification credentialed by an independent accreditation agency. Example - The NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification.Dual credentialed Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Athletic Therapist considered an asset.Background knowledge of Rehabilitation and Return to Sport processes not required; however, considered an asset.Background in Sports Science is considered as an asset.Key Attributes and Skill Sets :
The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within the framework of your position and title.Computer proficiency with the Google Cloud Platform and Strength and Conditioning Software preferred.Familiarity with Force Plate data capture preferred.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Must be willing to obtain certifications as defined by company policy.Experience in designing and implementing fitness programs.Please send your Resume and Cover Letter to :
