The Team
The Wellsite Products team is responsible for all of IWS's products deployed to the wellsite. This team prides itself in developing rugged, high-performance, safety-critical instrumentation and automation systems for Oil and Gas Completions activity in a complex, dynamic and demanding environment.
Our equipment is custom-designed for the unique market we serve, and is connected globally as part of a crucial data-gathering and automation system for the Completions industry.
The Role
IWS is seeking an R&D Project Manager, focused on hardware to co-ordinate projects across multiple teams from concept through completion of customer trials.
Reporting to the VP of Product and Technology, you will work closely with cross-functional hardware and software teams to plan, estimate, build, and deliver commercial products based on our core wellsite product portfolio.
These projects range from low-level real-time systems, to combined hardware / software product development and integration, through to developing innovative user-facing software-only applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Project management of multiple concurrent hardware and software projects. Involvement will be across the entire project lifecycle including : requirements analysis, product specification, project planning, implementation, integration, QA, introduction to manufacturing (if applicable) and post-delivery trial support.
- Work closely with product management, project sponsors, and members of the R&D team to turn high-level requirements into credible project plans using an agile development methodology.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on product management best practices to the project team through on-going coaching and mentoring.
- Champion ideas and solicit input from project team members on innovation, technology, efficiency, productivity and effectiveness.
Facilitate a collaborative environment of continuous learning and improvement. Act as an enabler to increase the overall velocity of the R&D team.
- Involve others; listen to and fully involve team members in decisions and actions. Value individual differences and talents to maintain an energized, open and creative work environment.
- Work closely with the Product Management and Sales teams to engage the customer and gain insight into their business objectives, work flows and solution requirements to enable effective short and long term project planning and strategic decision making.
Essential Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent degree with strong emphasis on project management within a product development team.
- PMP designation is an asset.
- Certified Scrum training is an asset (CSM, CSPO, CSC)
Experience
- 5+ years of relevant R&D / hardware Project Management, such as control systems, sensors, data position and supporting software experience.
- Previous experience working with an agile software development team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong track record of successful hardware and software product introductions achieved through the leadership of large teams through all phases of the produce development and delivery lifecycle.
- Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills that clearly convey information and ideas. Able to lead project reviews across multiple disciplines and present concepts to senior management.
- Advances knowledge of hardware and software development lifecycles and associated development processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams in a matrix management model and to effectively manage across multiple projects / tasks
- Proven ability to work across teams to identify progress in an environment with a high-degree of uncertainty.
- Demonstrated ability to provide coaching, mentoring and leadership to enhance the capabilities and skills of the team.
