Manager, Generation Support (Fort Simpson)
Overview
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director, Thermal Operations the incumbent co-ordinates the day-to-day operation and works closely with the Maintenance Services Manager for the Deh Cho / Sahtu region to ensure safe and reliable energy production for the region.
Develops both short term and long-term objectives supporting division plan and the corporate strategic plan.
Under the direction of the Director, Thermal Operations : Leads the daily operation of the Generation Team for the Deh Cho / Sahtu;
is responsible to ensure the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization are articulated and understood by employees.
Must lead the staff towards the achievement of the divisional goals and objectives. Operates as a supervisor for direct reports, which includes, setting objectives, assigning duties, assessing, and managing individual performance, with the aim of delivering results.
Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of other employees, contractors, and the public in the workplace by :
i. Reporting any failure to adhere to safety practises or rules.
ii. Providing detailed orientations and identification of hazards to all visitors
iii. Removing hazards or make the workplace safe when leaving a work area.
Supervise the activities of subordinate staff including hiring, assigning, and monitoring work, conducting performance appraisal, and recommending termination including regular visits to the community plants.
Monitors the use of casuals and all overtime expenses.
- Provides technical advice to the Projects and Engineering Division and Finance Division regarding operations and maintenance budget administration, scope requirements for division capital projects, operations and maintenance projects, and general administrative policies and procedures to facilitate division and corporate planning and administration.
- Manages assigned capital projects, including coordination with the division asset manager to set the scope of the project, issuing and awarding of quotes, tenders and request for proposals for services and supplies for the capital projects, management of the construction or procurement of the assets and coordination with the asset manager and the Finance Division on the required administration work to close out the capital project in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and three years related experience including one year of management experience. Management experience includes, but is not limited to, responsibility of hiring, directly assigning work to, assessing the performance of and imposing discipline on employees.
Equivalencies may be considered.
- Valid NWT Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent required.
- Experience in administrative and financial planning procedures to support the development, implementation and monitoring of division plans and operating budgets
- Extensive experience in the production and distribution of power.
- Good planning, organizational and prioritizing skills.
- Good analytical and diagnostic skills with problem solving competence.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in order to respond to customer complaints and deal with permanent, casual and contract workers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Word and Excel.
- Must undergo a successful criminal records check.
Salary for this position ranges from $58.55 / hr. - $73.18 / hr as well as location and accommodation allowances of approximately $10,384 per annum.
