Job Summary

The Set-Up Supervisor supervises the extrusion production changes at the IPEX Edmonton plant. Ensures that proper standards and procedures are followed in order to ensure cost effective set-ups that will produce a quality part and increase efficiency and safety.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Works with Production Planner Production Supervisor and Production Manager to ensure set-up schedules are able to be completed in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Supervise and develop the process of mold changes, start up and process control with a goal of continuous improvement.
  • Creates and monitors compliance to SOP’s to ensure consistency in processes.
  • Uses tools such as SMED, 5S, Six Sigma, CI to ensure cost effective programs and organization.
  • Works with Tooling Supervisor to ensure any necessary repairs and / or changes to mold are documented and communicated to required personal.
  • Works with Process Technicians daily as well as Process Engineer to continuously improve processes.
  • Prepare and distribute all documentation required for mold changes including any prep work instructions including off shift mold changes.
  • Reviews product and work output to ascertain product quality, set-up cycle times, quantities, and specifications meet IPEX’s operational standards.
  • Inspects molds and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Ensures documentation of process parameters both electronically and on paper.
  • Manage the process for testing of repaired molds to ensure process efficiency, repeatability and quality.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data, about set-up cycles and efficiency results, etc.
  • Oversees staff performance, trains and evaluates employees’ output, encouraging open communication and personal growth.
  • Provides an effective communication tool for all shifts equally to provide results and information needed to operate efficiently.
  • Handles all union issues affecting the Set-up Dept. that arise.
  • Manage installation and setup of all auxiliary equipment for the process to run.
  • Able to cover Shift Supervisor if needed.
  • Maintains inventories of materials used by the setup department in such a manner that time is not lost for missing parts. (welder components, thermocouples, etc.)
  • Reviews mold parts prior to and after all mold changes to ensure that all parts are accounted for and accessible.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certificates

  • Completion of a Mechanical / Technically related College / University program.
  • Technical Skills & Experience

  • 6-10 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • 6-10 years processing experience in extrusion environment preferred
  • COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to prioritize efficiently
  • Must possess good computer skills with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Filemaker.
  • Must have Blueprint reading experience.
  • KEY RELATIONSHIPS :

    Interacts daily with direct reports and Plant Manager, Production Manager, Head Process Tech., Process Engineer, Technical Manager, Production Planner, Tooling Supervisor, Quality Manager, Health and Safety, and Shift Supervisor.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

  • Employee may be exposed to a considerable level of hazards in the work environment, such as chemicals, commercial products, exposure to potential toxins, moving machinery, repetitive motion, excessive noise, powered industrial vehicle fork / reach / bucket lift / other.
  • Nearly always work indoors in corporate office environment with long periods of sitting
  • May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels.
  • Employee may be required to perform a minimal level of specific tasks such as lifting, muscular action, body movements, working positions, posture changes, visual attentiveness.
  • Employee will be required to wear protective eyewear, laboratory coat, appropriate gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety shoes, hard hat, and / or other.
  • Employee may experience progressive degrees of factors in the work process which may cause mental tension or anxiety (changing work priorities, deadlines, accuracy, quotas, conflicting demands.
