Position: Clinical Nurse Educator/Registered Nurse
Department: Community Mental Health and Addictions
Based at the King Street Campus of NBRHC, the CNE will promote a culture of continuous capacity building and clinical mentorship across the community Mental Health and Addictions programs. This fulltime CNE is a composite role that spends a portion of their time working front line in Community Mental Health & Addictions programs at King Street.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification/Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Graduate of a recognized BScN Program required
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Masters of Nursing/Master of Science in Nursing required
- Current B.C.L.S. Certificate required
- Recent (within 3 years) previous clinical experience working in community mental health and addictions
- Recent medical/clinical experience in an active care setting and familiarity with the MHC Continuing Care Program
- Knowledge of adult teaching and learning principles combined with recent teaching experience (primary focus
- on staff with patient education component) required
- Certification from the CAN in psychiatric/mental health nursing is required (CPMH(c))
- Sound knowledge of mental health conditions, psychotropic medication, related side effects, symptom management and health teaching required.
- Sound knowledge of substance misuse and addictions treatment required
- Community mental health experience, including 5 years Clinical Nurse Educator experience/expertise (recent within the last 2-3 years) required
- Demonstrated skills and unique abilities to convey knowledge to practice through the effective application of best practice adult learning principles (patient and staff focused)
- Experience in monitoring the transfer of knowledge, which includes identifying trends, documenting the learning process and its outcomes with quality standards and parameters
- Experience in working with or facilitating interdisciplinary/interagency groups and committees required
- Excellent demonstrated flexibility, organizational and leadership skills required
- Excellent demonstrated physical and psychosocial assessment and intervention skills required
- Applying best practice to inform the development of new policies and procedures
- Experience in leading change processes by involving stakeholders and applying project management skills to effectively implement and sustain new processes and practice changes
- Promote a culture of continuing education, reflecting practice and access to current learning opportunities by seeking out and initiating applicable professional development opportunities (webinars, catalogue of resource materials and lunch and learns)
- Provides mentorship to staff to assist in developing and achieving specific educational/competency goals and monitoring mandatory staff training to ensure organizational standards and practices are optimized and maintained
- Works collaboratively with all staff in all programs and disciplines to address complex clinical practice issues

- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required.
