Job description

Bus Mechanic Assistant Transportation Services is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of school buses, including routing, scheduling, and bus maintenance in accordance with Division Policy and The Public Schools Act. Under the direction of the Bus Mechanic Lead Hand, the Bus Mechanic Assistant is responsible for the routine maintenance and repair of Winnipeg School Division buses. When required, the incumbent shall assist the Red Seal Bus Mechanics with their responsibilities, which include the repairing, rebuilding, remodeling, assembling, installing, welding, diagnosing and overhauling of Division buses. In accordance with established procedures, performs preventative maintenance and repair of Division School Buses. Ensures all written and electronic records are completed promptly and accurately; drives buses for maintenance purposes including test drives, maintains a safe environment, adhering to all Workplace Safety and Health standards and Division standards and procedures. Performs other related duties within this classification and other related classifications not exceeding skills and capabilities as required. This position requires an individual who can work both independently and within a team environment. A combination of good organizational skills with the ability to work in an environment with multiple interruptions and the ability to meet tight deadlines is required. Strength, stamina and physical exertion is routinely required when moving objects over 25 kgs of weight. Up to 70% of time worked, is spent standing, bending, climbing and stretching while the remaining time is spent driving and walking. Qualifications : Complete secondary education or an appropriate combination of training and experience 1 - 3 years working experience in an automotive garage and / or fleet vehicle maintenance facility A valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver’s License Completion of level one apprenticeship in the Truck and Transport Red Seal Mechanic Program and / or level one Automotive Technician Program is preferred Providing personally owned hand tools would be considered an asset Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity Proven commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Proven ability to build collaborated cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose How to apply : Click the button "Apply Online" and log into your account.
