An affiliate of the Airbus Group of Companies, STELIA is an aerospace and defence company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of composite components and assemblies. Headquartered in Lunenburg, NS, and with a site in Mirabel, QC, we operate more than 150,000 sq feet of facilities dedicated to operations, manufacturing and administration.
The Materials Laboratory Technician prepares test samples, performs material tests, and reports results to exacting procedures and specifications. This role supports the day-to-day requirements of the laboratory.
Accountabilities
- Performing tests required for receiving inspection and shelf-life extension of materials used in the composite part manufacturing process
- Performing in-process testing of manufactured parts for quality control purposes
- Performing physical, chemical, mechanical, thermal, and thermomechanical tests/analyses
- Precisely documenting, reporting, and maintaining records of all testing performed
- Manufacturing composite test panels in accordance with technical specifications and procedures. This includes test panel layup, as well as some curing activities
- Safely operating laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including mechanical testing machines, thermal instruments, and various test apparatus
- Maintaining stock of standard consumables
- Maintaining an organized work environment
- Demonstrating test procedure compliance to auditors
- Calibration, verification, and some maintenance of lab equipment
- Maintain quality records on identified documents (travelers, inspection forms, etc.)
- Effectively scheduling and managing workload, requiring coordination with other departments
- Communicating test results and technical information to internal parties
- Assisting in the daily operations of the lab
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education (diploma) in a relevant field or a combination of relevant experience and education
- Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Good understanding of composites, plastics, mathematics, and laboratory practices
- A scientific mindset and interest
- Exposure to quality assurance procedures and practices
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and urge to complete a job
- Motivated, reliable, and able to perform well in a team environment
