Make an impact with our International Tax group as an Accounting Technician. This diverse team of professionals delivers customized tax strategies within a complex and dynamic regulatory framework. Responsibilities
- Develop technical skills in areas such as corporate income tax compliance, tax accounting, tax research and writing
- Develop and apply knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, the Canadian Income Tax Act, bilateral income tax treaties and related legislation
- Set-up files for new and existing clients and manage multiple files simultaneously
- Research various tax related issues and conclude on their potential implications
- Collect and analyze relevant financial and tax data
- Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports
- Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns for various types of entities (may prepare personal tax returns)
- Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts and highlights
- Collaborate with client engagement team and build relationships with client contacts
- Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs and systems
- Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary
Skills and Experience
Possess a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in accounting or another relevant fieldExperience in an accounting, customer service and / or client service environment is preferredPrevious experience in preparation of personal and corporate tax returns is an assetExperience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as CaseWare, CCH Axcess and TaxPrep or Taxcycle is preferredWorking knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act, specifically in Canadian Personal TaxExperience working with US Tax is considered an assetStrong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
