The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance, installation and general support of production equipment.

The incumbent will provide guidance with implementing, maintaining and improving the operational uptime of systems through expanded PPM programs.

The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for providing rapid response troubleshooting for CNC based automated manufacturing cells built around world class Industry 4.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / Areas of Accountability :

Responsible for machine repair and troubleshooting.

  • Work closely with integrators to support the integration of advanced technologies and ensure we are fully partnered on any solutions put in place.
  • Identify data flow breakdowns based on an understanding of digital connectivity to ensure that data is complete, accurate and credible.
  • Use and interpret data and analytics to proactively detect equipment or machine failures and identify corrective action.
  • Perform routine diagnostic checks on equipment, electrical panels, and control systems.
  • Perform inspection practices for standard machines and equipment.
  • Maintain inputs and outputs of systems.
  • Inspect identified issues and generates multiple hypothesis, using a methodical approach, to issues / problems that arise and helps drive appropriate corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot software, electrical and electronic control systems issues, provide detailed corrective action and identify potential risks to similar processes.
  • Repair, exchange and restart software (as necessary).
  • Able to close the information loop across machines / facilities to enhance preventative maintenance standard operating procedures.
  • Solve problems / recognize opportunities with other teams as required.
  • Solve problems relative to system peripherals (mechanical pumps, bar loaders) and diagnostic software.
  • Lead troubleshooting by identifying root cause of issues and qualifying corrective actions across processes, relevant to the individual’s scope of responsibility.
  • Able to perform inspection practices for standard machines and equipment.
  • Removal / Installation of motors, servo motors, ball screws, linear bearings, scales, drives, and all manner of mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Precision alignment of CNC machines utilizing metrology tools.
  • Monitoring / repair all system components of plant coolant processing systems, including pumps, filters, chip processing equipment.
  • Assist Technicians with system repairs and retrofits.
  • Communicate information throughout shift and at shift exchange.
  • Follow EH&S guidelines and standards in all activities, suggesting improvements when possible

Understanding of manufacturing equipment and installation.

  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment within a 24 / 7 manufacturing environment (Including auxiliary equipment)
  • Liaise with suppliers and direct sub-trades.
  • Understand data flows within the digital solution to identify potential breakdowns or discrepancies and share relevant information.
  • Apply generic concepts or approaches to different products or businesses to build the closed-loop feedback mechanism by sharing knowledge across multiple products and businesses (e.

  • Contributes to the implementation of new digital capabilities relevant to the team, accounting for implications to existing processes and data requirements throughout.
  • Provide technical application support during new installations and equipment breakdowns, including problems with documentation, research and replication, escalation, and resolution.
  • Improves data accuracy, relevancy and collection methods to make optimal decisions.
  • Assist in developing and / or updating preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Monitor and participate in ensuring all Key Performance Indicators (Safety, Quality and Productivity) are being achieved.
  • Work with different vendors, including understanding their machinery and software.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the maintenance strategy and provide recommendations to Maintenance Team Leaders.
  • Provide Leadership, support and mentorship.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to team members.
  • Co-ordinate activities of helpers and assigned contractors.
  • Lead the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives by applying lean methodologies
  • Utilize manuals and schematics to detect problems, errors and conflicts
  • Builds training plans and delivers training to team members across the business, as required.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Design, Automation, Industrial Engineering or college equivalent.
  • Masters License in relevant trade is preferred.

EXPERIENCE

5 years + relevant work experience with automated equipment in a CNC Environment is an asset, however, ongoing training and mentoring will be provided.

QUALIFICATION

  • Understanding of CNC programming; ability to follow programming procedures.
  • Knowledge of equipment : mechanical, CNC maintenance, electrical, control / safety.
  • Able to apply a process-oriented problem-solving approach across a variety of situations and activities.
  • Able to read, interpret, and create schematics; hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical.
  • Able to detect problems, errors and conflicts within complex blueprints.
  • A versatile learner, receptive to change and able to pick up new technical knowledge quickly (e.g., performing single disciplines in hydraulics, mechanics or electrical assemblies).
  • Understanding of assembly procedures, knowledge of assembly work flows and sequencing of activities an asset.
  • Understanding of the maintenance strategy, and how all roles within the Maintenance and, broader M2S, contribute to the overall strategy.
  • Able to validate machinery / facility operation and conformance to Husky Quality standards.
  • Understanding of logic behind automation and interfaces between machines, robots and data collection.
  • Understanding of coding :
  • Basic understanding of PLC programing - Structured Text (IEC 61131) Beckhoff
  • Basic understanding of Fanuc robotic coding
  • WinCC (Siemens and C programming language Bolton only)
  • Able to update software versions as necessary including the ability to revert to previous versions.
  • Able to define and standardize preventative and predictive maintenance.
