About the role

We’re looking for a Claims Consultant to join our growing team!

As a Claims Consultant on our National EBI / Energy Specialty Claims team, you will handle complex claims through all distribution channels. You will be responsible for the direct handling and monitoring of first party with some thrid party complex claims with exposures in Canada and Internationally.

The types of losses may include Energy, Equipment breakdown, Commecial Property, Environment Liability and additional Specialty Claims.

What you'll do here :

  • Manage, Investigate, analyze, negotiate and resolve large and complex C ommercial, Energy and Equipment breakdown property claims generally with exposures over $1 Million involving specialized kind of loss;
  • Where appropriate engage and manage consultants, independent adjusters, accounts and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability and assess damages;
  • Mentor, guide and provide technical advise to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long term succession planning;
  • Train colleagues on complex claims handling;
  • Work with Underwriting and Loss Prevention to identify potential risks, hazards and trends;
  • Provide Brilliant Customer Service to Brokers, Customers, and Colleagues;
  • Deliver and Exceed on all key performance indicators as it relates to loss development and loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control and expense management;
  • Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support a model of best practice operations;
  • Effectively negotiate claims when appropriate;
  • Attend settlement conferences and trials;
  • Attend loss locations and other broker and client meetings when appropriate

What you bring to the table :

  • 10+ years experience with direct handling of large and complex commercial property claims with a minimum of 5 years experience handling large and complex equipment breakdown and energy claims
  • Technical expertise acquired through extensive experience of direct handling of large and complex property claims.
  • A critical thinker and have intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time sensitive situations
  • A skilled communicator allowing you to foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients
  • A problem solver and able to gather information, evaluate a situation and negotiate the next steps toward a solution
  • Able to adapt to changing needs and understand the need to be flexible and agile
  • A planner and able to effectively organize to establish and effective strategy
  • A strong collaborator and have a passion for mentoring and coaching others
  • Appropriate knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to this position
  • Undergraduate Degree or CIP designation (asset)
  • Flexible travel as needed

    Salary of the successful candidate will typically be positioned between the following range, taking into consideration a number of factors including prior experience, qualifications, anticipated contribution to role, location and internal equity :

    88,500.00 - $132,700.00
