Description

The Disability Management Specialist II is responsible for delivering Strathcona Countys disability management program by providing comprehensive case management for both occupational and non occupational injuries and illnesses. This role manages short term and long term absences with a strong focus on early intervention proactive communication coordinated support and collaboration. The position provides expert guidance on duty-to-accommodate requirements implements stay-at-work strategies and facilitates safe timely and sustainable return-to-work outcomes for employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead disability case management by working collaboratively with employees department supervisors/managers health care providers third party providers and key HR roles to implement return to work plans and accommodation measures as required on a case-by-case basis
  • Clarify functional abilities and limitations as required; communicate with all parties through an organized and systematic approach
  • Ensure disability management practices are consistent with policies and requirements as they relate to Strathcona County external stakeholders (WCB and benefits carrier) collective agreements and provincial and federal law
  • Strategize and communicate Modified Work Agreements (e.g. Transitional/Gradual Return to Work plans) as required based on supporting medical documentation. Liaise with employees supervisors and external stakeholders as required throughout the return-to-work process
  • Lead case consultations with appropriate stakeholders as required to facilitate a safe and sustainable return
  • Facilitate connections to support services and programs (e.g. contractors preferred community health care providers etc.) as required
  • Complete the duties of the testing administrator as per the Strathcona County Alcohol and Drug program
  • Work collaboratively with HR Business Partnering and HR Operations to ensure effective and consistent application of workflow practices
  • Provide effective guidance and support to leaders across the organization with respect to absences returning to the workplace following illness/injury and stay at work strategies
  • Prepare and deliver related presentations to large groups of staff

Qualifications and Skills

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field (Nursing Occupational Therapy Kinesiology Psychology) with at least 3 years of experience in disability/case management
  • A related diploma may be considered as an equivalency with additional years of experience
  • Education or training specific to best practices in disability management and return to work processes is an asset
  • Registered health care professional designation (e.g. Registered Occupational Therapist Registered Nurse) is an asset
  • A working knowledge of WCB legislation and processes along with benefits policies and practices
  • Skilled in mediation and conflict management and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with management and staff at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to large groups
  • High personal integrity and ethical conduct with the ability to earn the trust and cooperation of others
