Construction Safety Officer – OFA3 to join our team on a construction site in Surrey, Canada . This dual‑role position is responsible for supporting and promoting health and safety initiatives on‑site while providing immediate first aid care in the event of workplace incidents.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the primary First Aid Attendant on‑site, providing immediate and appropriate medical assistance in case of workplace injuries, illnesses, or emergencies.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
- Assess the nature and severity of injuries or medical conditions, and prioritize treatment based on the level of urgency.
- Support incident and near‑miss investigations, including documentation and follow‑up on corrective actions.
- Conduct first aid needs assessment for several sites.
- Help maintain first‑aid compliance through the Emergency Response Plan.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all medical treatments provided.
- Ensure that first‑aid equipment and supplies are properly maintained, stocked, and ready for use.
- Deliver site safety orientations and toolbox talks to new and existing employees.
- Conduct fit testing when needed.
- Promote a positive safety culture by supporting worker engagement and reinforcing safe work practices.
- Monitor worker compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and site protocols.
- Liaise with subcontractors, site supervisors, and project management regarding safety expectations and performance.
- Track safety metrics and support monthly reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Must have a valid OFA Level 3 Certification (current).Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an OFA level 2 or 3.Minimum 2 years of experience in a safety role within the construction industry.Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools.Solid knowledge of provincial safety regulations (e.g., WorkSafe BC) and best practices.Experience in conducting workplace inspections, investigations, and training.Experience in emergency management.Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑pressure or emergency situations.Assets
Additional certifications (e.g., WHMIS, Fall Protection, CSTS, Confined Space, TDG).Previous experience on large infrastructure, industrial, or civil construction projects.Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) experience.Work Conditions
