Job Description :
Position Overview : As the Chief Estimator for high rise and ICI projects, you will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase by providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for various projects.
You will lead a team of estimators and collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure the successful completion of projects within budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage the estimating team to develop comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for high rise and ICI projects, including but not limited to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings.
- Analyze project documents, specifications, and drawings to understand project requirements and scope of work.
- Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and material pricing to determine project costs.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to obtain competitive bids and pricing for various project components.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed and organized estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review and analyze subcontractor proposals and negotiate pricing to ensure cost competitiveness.
- Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, market conditions, and material costs to ensure competitiveness in bidding strategies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry professionals to enhance bidding opportunities and procurement processes.
- Prepare and present detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals to senior management for review and approval.
- Collaborate with project management teams during the transition from pre-construction to construction phase to ensure accurate budgeting and cost control measures are implemented.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field. A combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in construction estimating, with a focus on high rise and ICI projects.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to effectively manage and mentor a team of estimators.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software such as Bluebeam, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex project documents and specifications.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Thorough understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes / regulations applicable to high rise and ICI projects in the Greater Vancouver Area.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) are preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites and attend meetings as needed.
