The Simcoe County District School Board is accepting applications from SCDSB Elementary Contract Teachers for the following position :
Mathematics Learning Partner - Elementary,
supporting Area F Priority Schools
Temporary Secondment - Jan. 26 - June 29, 2026
The Mathematics Learning Partner (MLP) will work directly with students in elementary schools using small group instruction to support student learning in math. MLPs work in collaboration with educators to develop strong content knowledge and evidence-informed instruction and assessment practices. MLPs, along with classroom educators and special education resource teachers, will identify student needs using multiple sources of evidence and will then work collaboratively to develop responsive instruction and assessment activities designed to address those needs.
Successful applicants will be compensated at their current rate of pay. The successful applicant will support elementary priority schools in Area F, including schools in Angus and Collingwood.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
A University degree
An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate of Qualification
Qualifications to teach in at least two divisions (primary / junior / intermediate)
Five or more years teaching experience with a range of teaching assignments
Specialist in Mathematics (preferred)
Special Education qualifications preferred
KEY COMPETENCIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
The successful applicant for the Mathematics Learning Partner (MLP) secondment will have :
mathematics content and pedagogical knowledge for teaching and leading;
in-depth understanding of the and responsive instruction;
in-depth knowledge of assessment, evaluation and reporting;
a repertoire of effective evidence-informed and culturally responsive instructional strategies to engage all students in learning;
understanding of strategies to support multilingual learners;
understanding of strategies to support students with special education needs;
experience using a variety of digital tools, including Knowledgehook, to support online instruction, assessment and student engagement;
understanding of the key components of universal design for learning (UDL) for mathematics;
demonstrated leadership in a school or family of schools;
experience working in collaboration with colleagues;
excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and
a thorough knowledge of the following documents :
o The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1 to 8 : Mathematics, 2020;
o High Impact Instructional Practices in Mathematics, 2020;
o Growing Success - Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting in Ontario Schools (1-12);
knowledge of the following documents :
o The Guides to Effective Instruction in Mathematics, K-6
o Learning for All - A Guide to Effective Assessment and Instruction for All Students (K-12);
o Creating Pathways to Success, An Education and Career / Life Planning Program for Ontario Schools : Policy and Program Requirements (K-12);
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
The Mathematics Learning Partner will :
collaborate with classroom educators to support student learning in ministry-identified schools in Grades 3 and / or 6 classrooms by working directly with students using responsive small-group instruction.
build educator capacity related to the Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1 to 8 : Mathematics, 2020 , the , , and supporting multilingual learners and students with special education needs in the mathematics classroom;
communicate pertinent information about The Simcoe County District School Board’s Math Achievement Action Plan (MAAP);
identify and support the implementation of classroom-level intervention strategies designed specifically to address the needs of students who have not yet met the Provincial Standard in mathematics and to monitor their progress towards expectations;
build educator and administrator capacity related to the components of an effective mathematics program, effective pedagogical practices and intervention and transition strategies for students who are experiencing difficulties with learning and / or engagement;
build educator and administrator knowledge of key components of universal design for learning (UDL) for mathematics :
support schools in the development and implementation of plans to increase parent engagement in mathematics;
in collaboration with both school and system staff, MLPs will support the ongoing planning, implementation and monitoring of School Action and Equity Plans (SAEPs) related to mathematics ; and
other responsibilities to be determined based on the emerging needs of the system as well as the students / educators in the MLP’s assigned schools.
