Job Summary
The Packaging Technical Line Leader is responsible for overseeing the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of a production line within the Packaging Department Operations. This role ensures that production targets, quality standards, and safety regulations are met while supervising and coordinating a team of production workers. Full‑time and temporary associates are included in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Production Oversight:
- Lead and manage the production line to meet daily and weekly production goals.
- Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records.
- Monitor the production process to ensure efficiency and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Adjust line operations according to line standards (including output, wash‑up, and change‑over standards) to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Complete G.M.P. documents, such as the Packaging Work Order, and forward them to the documentation review clerk.
- Ensure equipment log books (stationary/non‑stationary and MES electronic logs) are accurately completed.
- Reconcile components used for the packaging operation in SAP and MES batch records.
- Review and ensure accurate data is recorded and entered into the Shop Floor Data collection system (SFDC Application).
- Report quality deviations to QA shop floor and Packaging Management in a timely manner.
- Organize, oversee, and actively participate in housekeeping tasks such as washing floors and walls as required by SOPs.
- Perform in‑process checks as outlined in applicable SOPs.
- Retrieve finished goods samples as per PWO (Routine, Stability, Validation, etc.).
- Participate in Line Clearance activities as per established SOPs.
- Participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits, as required.
- Participate in and/or lead Non‑Conformance Investigations, as required.
- Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) as required.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure team members are knowledgeable about the equipment and environment they work in; provide hands‑on safety training as required.
- Enforce health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all employees follow SOPs, hygiene requirements, and safety guidelines.
- Identify and report any potential hazards or safety concerns.
- Actively participate in investigations related to environment, health, and safety.
- First aid certification is a must.
- Productivity:
- Minimize downtime and maximize uptime by comparing standard line efficiencies to current real‑time productivity; make necessary adjustments to maximize output (Checkweigh Display Data & Shop Floor Data Control).
- Ensure efficient labour utilisation of all team members.
- Ensure that line wash‑up, change‑over, and set‑up time do not exceed standard time.
- Report issues with equipment, MES, Line Master, etc. to Packaging Supervisor/Manager, IT, MES team, and Maintenance in a timely manner.
- Team Supervision & Training:
- Supervise and motivate production team members, ensuring they perform their tasks effectively; monitor employee performance and provide feedback or corrective actions as needed, in collaboration with Packaging Managementli>
- Provide training on equipment operation, safety protocols, and quality standards; perform documentation review.
- Delegate on‑line tasks to full‑time and temporary associates.

- Inventory & Material Management:
- Monitor and control waste for packaging components and bulk, optimizing material usage.
- Maintain accurate records of production output and material usage.
- Ensure accurate transactions are performed in Inventory Management System (SAP) and MES in a timely manner.
- Equipment Operation, Set‑up & Troubleshooting:
- Ensure that production equipment is operating efficiently and report any issues to the maintenance team.
- Perform secondary equipment set‑up, including but not limited to cartoner, pester bender, case packer, checkweigher, etc.
- Assist with minor troubleshooting and adjustments to keep the line running smoothly.
- Operate cartoners, pester banding equipment, case packing equipment, and product labelling equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Additional Responsibility (Customer Facing Roles Only):
- Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within one business day.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Exposure to current cG.M.P. requirements.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a similar role in a pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic packaging environment or related industry.
- Mechanical aptitude is a must.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Excellent math skills.
- Proficiency with computer skills, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Strong leadership and team‑management skills; ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to production demands.
Working Conditions
- The line leader will be assigned to a line(s) with a desk and computer on the shop floor.
- Overtime may be required to complete a task after the shift has ended.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely lift up to 30 lbs.
- Operate lifting devices such as drum lifters, pallet trucks, and pallet wrappers.
- Time will be spent washing and sanitizing equipment, resulting in exposure to water, cleaning agents, and a high‑humidity environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time; also bend, squat, and walk throughout the day.
