Job description

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Engineering Projects, the Clinical Engineer is responsible for the provision of medical equipment systems design, implementation, safety, and life cycle management. The Clinical Engineer serves as the subject matter expert in interpreting the applied physics of medical technology and the technology-physiology interaction to support clinical teams and staff in optimizing the use of medical technology. The Clinical Engineer leads medical equipment projects to support the implementation of the capital medical equipment program, including but not limited to equipment implementation, design and modification; health technology assessments; risk management; ensuring adherence to regulations and standards for medical devices; developing support and preventative maintenance plans for medical equipment; and ensuring equipment meets cybersecurity requirements. The Clinical Engineer supports the development and implementation of enterprise asset management and fleet management strategies and design and implementation of medical equipment systems that support organizational strategies and clinical service plans. The Clinical Engineer is also responsible for providing consultation in the matters of medical device repairs, departmental policies, equipment procurement, and electrical and medical gas distribution with respect to clinical use. As the senior professional, the Clinical Engineer oversees project design, incident reports and capital equipment specifications and provides functional guidance to biomedical engineering staff and the organization via consultation and interpretation of standards and policies.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

  • Graduate from an accredited engineering program, specializing in electrical, mechanical, biomedical, or clinical engineering (or a related engineering field).
  • Must be licensed, or eligible to be licensed, to practice engineering with Engineers Nova Scotia
  • 4 years experience in a health care setting
  • Master in clinical engineering, biomedical instrumentation, or related fields is deemed an asset
  • Clinical engineering certification would be considered an asset
  • Great interpersonal skills, leadership and teaching ability, with the ability to work as a member of a team and / or serve as team leader.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maintain currency with advances in medical and engineering technology.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying federal regulations, laws and standards in a healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to manage projects with large capital budgets.
  • Must possess the technical knowledge and experience in a hospital setting necessary to be effective in writing system specifications, functional requirements, installation, and consumable costs as they relate to new biomedical equipment purchases.
  • Proven experience in meeting planned objectives and ad-hoc requirements within a large and diverse biomedical equipment portfolio.
  • Proven tolerance for ambiguity, with experience working through unforeseen challenges and obstacles to achieve both immediate and ongoing goals.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
