Job Title : Health Care Aide (HCA)

Location : kamloops, British Columbia

Position Summary

The Health Care Aide (HCA) provides front-line nursing care and support to residents as part of an interdisciplinary team. Under the guidance of the Care Manager or designated team leader, the HCA aims to deliver excellence in care and exemplifies a culture of safety for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Resident Care :

  • Assist with daily living activities (bathing, dressing, personal hygiene).
  • Provide safe care in collaboration with team members (e.g., two-person transfers, responsive behaviors).
  • Support residents during meals, including serving, clearing, and feeding assistance.
  • Respond to call bells, monitor health changes, and report / document as needed.

Safety and Hygiene :

  • Maintain a clean, safe environment for residents and staff.
  • Adhere to infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene.
  • Perform security patrols and respond to safety concerns.
  • Operational Support :

  • Utilize mechanical aids for transferring and transporting residents.
  • Complete shift-specific tasks and delegated duties.
  • Use effective communication with residents, families, and staff, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and emergency management.
  • Activities and Environment :

  • Collaborate with activities staff to support recreational programs.
  • Encourage resident independence and maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 10 and Health Care Aide certification or equivalent.
  • Registration with BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.
  • Preferred experience in the role or related volunteer / practicum work.
  • WHMIS and Food Safe certifications.
  • Physical fitness to fulfill job demands, including lifting, transferring, and manual tasks.
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a health care team.
  • Clear communication skills in English.
  • Compassion, dependability, and self-discipline.
  • Physical and mental adaptability to handle conflicting priorities and demanding situations.
  • Experience or training in dementia care or end-of-life care is an asset.
  • Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, reaching, walking, and lifting.
  • Lifting objects up to 20kg occasionally and up to 10kg frequently.
  • Fine and gross motor tasks with significant hand-eye coordination.
  • Requirements :

  • Must available for Evening / Night shifts
