Sheet Metal Estimator

A well-established mechanical contractor in the GTA is looking to add a Sheet Metal Estimator to join their team.

This contractor has a strong focus on Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional sectors in Southern Ontario. Specializing in custom ductwork, replacements, and retrofits, the team offers in-house design and fabrication of sheet metal and ducting. Known for strong support and organizational efficiency, you'll have access to advanced technology and a well-structured environment.

The role of the Sheet Metal Estimator is to prepare accurate tender prices from the available information such as drawings and specifications. Tenders include lump sum, guaranteed maximum price format, or unit rate pricing. The estimator will be responsible for preparing, recording, and maintaining pricing, ensuring the accuracy of the takeoff, and assisting the management team in the ongoing pursuit and acquisition of new work. Experience working with sheet metal, including within the field, is considered an asset.

Qualifications :

Knowledge of Sheet Metal estimating as it relates to HVAC
Experience with practical and successful experience in organizing and preparing cost estimates and proposals for construction projects.
Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.

Overview of Responsibilities :

Performing quantity takeoffs including entry into the computer estimating system.

Reviewing all bid documents to ensure all bid requirements are met.

Assemble all elements of an estimate including a lead sheet to summarize all the elements.

Preparing bid forms and submissions for a tender call or proposal.

Calculate a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit.

Provides detailed labor breakdowns for each area to assist with budget creation and management of projects.

Applies technical experience to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings.

Assists in the development of estimating plans to establish estimate / proposal strategies.

Attends and participates in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and post-bid meetings as required.
