Role Summary
We are seeking a Geohazard Specialist (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) to join our growing team. This role focuses on the assessment, analysis, and mitigation of natural hazards in British Columbia’s complex terrain. You will work within a multi-disciplinary environment—collaborating with our civil, geotechnical, hydrotechnical and forestry teams—to deliver practical solutions for infrastructure, resource development, and land-use planning projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution (Billable)
- Conduct Geohazard Assessments and Terrain Stability Assessments (TSA) for landslides, debris flows, rockfalls, and avalanches in accordance with EGBC guidelines.
- Perform terrain stability mapping and natural hazard risk analysis (qualitative and quantitative).
- Design conceptual and detailed mitigation strategies (e.g., rockfall barriers, debris flow deflection berms, slope stabilization).
- Lead field investigations in rugged and remote terrain across BC; this may include aerial reconnaissance (helicopter / drone).
- Coordinate with the hydrotechnical team on flood hazard assessments and riverbank stability.
Project Management & Business Development
Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets to ensure high utilization and profitability.Prepare high-quality technical reports and proposals for clients in the municipal, transportation, and forestry sectors.Mentor junior staff (EITs / GITs) and review field data collected by technicians.Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering (Geotechnical focus), or Earth Sciences.Designation : Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a P.Eng. or P.Geo. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).Experience : 5+ years of relevant consulting experience, specifically within the mountainous terrain of British Columbia.Technical Skills
Proficiency with slope stability modeling software (e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience).Strong understanding of BC regulations (e.g., Forest and Range Practices Act, Local Government Act).Experience with GIS (ArcGIS / QGIS) and LiDAR interpretation is a strong asset.Working Conditions
Mix of office-based analysis / reporting and field-based assessments.Must be willing to travel to remote sites within BC.Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required.#J-18808-Ljbffr
