Works, Lab Technician - Regional Environmental Lab (REL)

Laboratory Technician 1 - REL

Reporting to the Lab Supervisor under the functional supervision of the Lab Group Leader, the incumbent will :

• Set up and carry out assigned water, wastewater, sludge, or soil analysis for monitoring and enforcement purposes in accordance with the Canadian Association for Laboratory Accreditation 9CALAISO 17025) and the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks Drinking Water License (Safe Drinking Water Act)
• Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records, including data entry and data review
• Prepare quality control and calibration standards, reagents and media
• Store, handle and quantify inventory of chemicals and supplies
• Utilize a variety of laboratory equipment
• Assist with monitoring, evaluating, and updating laboratory quality control and assurance practices, as related to assigned testing
• Maintain safety awareness and abide by safe laboratory practices and policies
• Demonstrate professionalism through humility, respect, and responsiveness to a diverse workforce

The successful candidate will possess :

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 5

This position is with Salary Grade 5 and will be paid at the following hourly rates :
