Job Description

We are seeking applicants that understand the merits of high safety standards, interested in water treatment and distribution operations and have strong interpersonal skills, as well as a strong sense of community to join our Water Services team for an 8-month (September-May) co-op.

Duties and Responsibilities

Working closely with the Utilities Operations Supervisor(s) – Water and shadowing experienced Operators, the job duties are :

  • Assist operators to perform preventative maintenance / repairs to all equipment as recommended by the manufacturer, or as needed.
  • Assist with collecting and submitting bacteriological / chemical samples as directed by an operator-in-charge.
  • Utilize Geospatial equipment to identify and mark location of field assets.
  • Assist operators with flushing / repairs and inspections of existing water mains, hydrants, valves, and service as required.
  • Assist operators with daily operational duties at various water operations facilities, as directed.
  • Assist with maintenance of water operations buildings and grounds as directed by an operator-in-charge.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles, tools and all other departmental equipment in good operating condition.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

Operator-in-Training (OIT) certifications are required, minimum of :

  • Water Treatment
  • Water Distribution or Distribution and Supply
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite applications, and database systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Data entry experience is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans, maps and drawings
  • A valid class "G" driver's license is required
  • Closing date is July 8, 2024 .
