Your Opportunity
As the Senior Research Advisor on Stantec's Research and Innovation Services team, you will build your career by applying your understanding of research while highlighting and furthering the innovative work done at Stantec.
This is a full-time permanent position within Stantec's Innovation Office where you will learn about the most innovative science and technology projects across Canada, and access government funding for those projects.
You will report to the Manager, Research and Innovation Services and will advance our team's strategic goal to "initiate, establish, advertise, evaluate, and improve research services at Stantec".
Stantec enhances its value to clients and shareholders by strengthening its technical capacity through scientific research and innovation.
The Stantec Research & Innovation Services team facilitates Stantec engagement in research by accessing research funding and other resources.
One major source of funding is the Canadian federal government's research tax credit program "Scientific Research and Experimental Development" (SR&ED).
Your Key Responsibilities
- Educate Stantec Canada about strategic use of SR&ED to strengthen technical capacity
- Oversee the annual cycle of SR&ED claim development at Stantec which involves :
- ensuring all members of the SR&ED team know and fulfill their roles
- working with technical leaders to help them identify SR&ED eligible work
- grouping eligible work from various business centres (BCs) into coherent SR&ED projects
- helping researchers describe why their work is eligible for SR&ED
- examine costs of potential claims to quantify Stantec's investment
- review SR&ED technical descriptions and the completed claim
- Take care of additional SR&ED work related to Canada Revenue Agency reviews
- Implement research services programs based on your experience of using research to make Stantec stronger.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Exceptional listening and verbal communication skills
- Proficient writing and editing skills with the ability to aid technical experts in developing project descriptions that clearly explain relevant activities
- Strong technical credentials with the ability to understand advanced technologies and processes in all business lines
- Experience conducting research in the context of a technical consulting firm
- Able to work remotely through phone and email, offering and receiving guidance within specific timeframes
- Ability to oversee administrative aspects of a team while focusing effort on more abstract aspects
Education and Experience
- Masters or doctoral degree in science or engineering.
- Having a PMP designation or relevant project management experience is advantageous.

Salary Range(s) :
Lower Mainland $81,200 / Other BC Areas $76,600 - Lower Mainland $117,800 / Other BC Areas $111,100 Min / Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
