Position Description :
We are seeking a motivated educator to lead our educators’ portfolio in support of Science World’s mission. Through inter and cross-departmental cooperation, this position will ensure Science World is a top of mind, trusted resource, destination and catalyst for quality K-12 science learning in BC. The candidate will work collaboratively across the organization to support Science World in delivering programming and scaling STEAM literacy in schools across the province.
Reporting to the Director of STEAM Learning and working closely with the Student Programs lead, the Educator Programs Manager is focussed on ensuring that Science World’s activities support the needs of BC Educators both at Science World and around the province through high quality professional development and resources. The position requires close cross-departmental collaboration, an understanding of the BC education systems and cycles, and familiarity with Science World’s resources and existing assets supporting schools.
The work of the Educator Programs Manager will support Science World in stewarding long term, strategic relationships with educators.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of professional development programs for BC K-12 teachers. This may include STEAM Days of Summer multi-day programs, inquiry groups, after-school events and internship programs for teacher candidates
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of professional development programs, online and in-person, throughout BC
- In alignment with Science World’s strategic directions and the needs of educators, develop resources for BC K-12 teachers around multidisciplinary (STEAM) learning, inquiry, coding and digital skills
- Act as a resource to Experiential Learning team members around best practices in pedagogy and teacher engagement
- Collaborate in the preparation and execution of an annual plan including critical annual projects, performance indicators and priority audiences. This work is completed in the spring of each year to allow time for appropriate internal and external consultation, data collection and planning for the upcoming school year
- Present and participate at key conferences and professional association and community meetings and gatherings
- Document and evaluate professional development programming
- Collect participant data. Assess and adapt data collection methods to ensure accurate reporting
- Contribute to report and proposal writing related to portfolio of responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of the annual school support budget to meet organizational strategy and KPIs
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role
Qualifications
Certified teacher with a minimum of 2 years classroom experience (or equivalent)Experience with innovative science teaching methods, including inquiry and problem-based learning, critical thinking and cross-curricular teachingExperience with coding, digital literacy and computational thinkingis an assetExcellent organizational, time-management and team work skillsProfessional track record in developing and implementing successful education programs and resources. Experience facilitating stakeholder engagement and developing professional enrichment for teachers would be an assetMust have a valid unrestricted driver’s license with clean driving record (candidate will be asked to provide current driver’s abstract for examination and approval), and willing to travel throughout BC by driving and by airFlexible work schedule is required with periodic weekend, evening work, overnight and multi-day travel requiredThe salary range for this position is $64,000 to $72,000 per year.
