Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, External Relations, the Advisor, External Relations supports the provision of confidential, analytical and strategic correspondence and communications support to the Operational Services branch as well as the Commission's communication activities directly with the Ministry of Housing's Corporate Correspondence Unit to provide accurate, relevant, timely responses to all BC Housing-related inquiries received by the Ministry of Housing.

He / She / They Prepares accurate, timely responses to Ministry correspondence on behalf of various internal and external officials, including the Minister, Deputy Minister of Housing, BC Housing's CEO, and executive team members. The position collaborates directly and consults with Ministry staff on highly complex, politically sensitive, and confidential information of BC Housing partners and / or clients to coordinate and compose responses ensuring Ministry responses are accurate and in alignment with all strategic goals and objectives of BC Housing.

The position partners with various departments across the commission and performs due diligence as needed to ensure BC Housing Ministry correspondence responses are in alignment, flags items or correspondence requiring Executive Office attention.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following :

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Policy, Communications or Planning or relevant fields.
  • Sound experience in strategic communications planning, research, and issues management in a fast paced, complex environment supporting senior level management, government, and sector partners.
  • Some knowledge of social housing and housing policy.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience acceptable to the Employer.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the philosophy, theories, and principles of strategic communications, and stakeholder relationships specifically in the public sector environment.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills including editing and proof reading.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office / Windows applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work closely and facilitate meetings with internal and external partners and stakeholders including senior executives and ministry staff to determine direction for complex, politically sensitive, and confidential correspondence items.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner while displaying a high degree of diplomacy, judgement, discretion, and clarity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to display tact, flexibility, and initiative while working under tight deadlines and pressures, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage the day-to-day administrative needs of a team, meet deadlines and develop and implement administrative practices and office procedures.
  • Ability to travel and access to reliable transportation.
