Job description

Job Overview :

The Pantophlet Lab , part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU), is urgently seeking a motivated Research Assistant / Technician to join the PROGENITER project. This initiative focuses on rapidly designing and producing antibody leads against viral diseases. This is a full-time position with an anticipated start date no later than February 1, 2025 .

The PROGENITER project is a cutting-edge initiative to advance at least three antibodies into IND-enabling studies within four years. As a cornerstone of Canada’s pandemic preparedness strategy, the project is supported by AI-enabled antibody discovery. It includes partnerships with leading companies such as AbCellera, Amgen, Gandeeva, GSK, and Zymeworks.

Responsibilities :

  • Perform high-parameter flow cytometry and other immunological assays (e.g., ELISA, biolayer interferometry).
  • Conduct virological assays.
  • Clone antibodies from human and transgenic mouse B cells for neutralizing antibody discovery, selection, and optimization.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks, including mammalian tissue culture and antibody purification.
  • Support the setup and maintenance of lab infrastructure and workflows.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the project's success.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • MSc in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology or a closely related field.
  • Experience in antibody discovery, mammalian tissue culture, virological assays and molecular biotechniques.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools is an asset.
