THE ROLE

Do you want to document software that enable high-performance computing and machine learning workloads at Exascale? AMD is searching for talented and motivated writers for ROCm™ documentation.

THE PERSON

You are accustomed to working in a dynamic, geographically distributed agile team, where partnership and collaboration are paramount.

You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to express your work in a clear, cohesive fashion.

You are results-oriented and accustomed to tight deadlines and changing priorities. Most importantly, you are constantly thinking of improving and establishing a seamless user experience for documentation.

As a writer for AMD ROCm software, you will work with a team to develop and curate compelling and engaging content for our audience.

The documentation spans deployment guides, programming guides, user manuals and API reference guides for products and components intended for software developers, scientists, and engineers.

Our documentation philosophy is docs-as-code, a tightly coupled process for software developers and the software technical writer.

To excel in this role, you will have experience developing and editing content, and excellent communication and organizational skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write, edit, review, and organize technical content regarding installing, configuring, and customizing ROCm software products and required third party applications
• Learn the products and be self-sufficient in using our software based on examples and test configurations
• Structure documentation and hierarchically organize content for an enhanced user experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES

• Experience working with a docs-as-code workflow
• Experience in python or other scripting languages. We use python to build our documentation.
• Exceptional ability to work with cross-functional teams to build partnerships and get things done
• Experience with text-based markup formats such as Markdown, reStructuredText (RST), LaTex, etc.
• Familiarity with the Agile development process
• Must have experience creating API and code documentation for developers
• Experience using the Linux shell and command-line Git
• Experience in working with worldwide teams and gathering information from subject matter experts
• Able to provide a portfolio of writing samples for review
• Ability to quickly learn new and existing technologies
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
• Background in computer science

NICE TO HAVE :

• Programming experience or exposure to programming languages and the ability to read code such as C, C++, Fortran
• Experience with software API documentation using Doxygen
• Familiarity with Doxygen / Sphinx publishing pipelines, especially via ReadTheDocs
• Experience with editing scientific and engineering academic papers
• Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.
• Experience with one or more code review workflows for git-based software development such as GitHub, Gerrit, Bitbucket, and GitLab
• Experience with technologies such as software or hardware systems via investigation, direct experimentation (e.g., reading or running code), and / or interactions with subject matter experts.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required.
• Education in computer science or programming as well as technical writing is preferred.
