Job Posting : Construction TechnologistLocation : Surrey, BCType : Full-time (in-office with site visits). Potential to work from home 1–2 days per week after six months.Start Date : February 18, 2025End Date : February 18, 2026Compensation : Up to $85.93 / hour (INC) or $71.02 / hour (T4)General DescriptionThe Construction Technologist performs a variety of duties related to planning, estimating, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities.Key ResponsibilitiesPlanning and EstimationPrepare detailed cost estimates based on engineering specifications and contract conditions.Research and recommend methods to minimize labor, equipment requirements, and costs.Revise estimates and schedules as required.Perform quantity takeoffs and calculate direct costs using established rates or base information.Assess risks and incorporate them into estimates and pricing.Apply markups to ensure full overhead recovery.Scheduling and CoordinationDevelop work schedules and coordinate project activities.Provide technical advice and field coordination to construction crews and other stakeholders.Procurement and DocumentationObtain technical information and costs for materials and equipment.Prepare procurement documentation for materials, equipment, and subcontracts.Maintain up-to-date records of equipment costs, production rates, and material costs.Technical Reporting and AnalysisReview cost / progress reports and analyze variances between projected and actual costs.Evaluate scheduling changes and their impact on project costs.Prepare detailed technical reports, graphs, and charts to monitor project progress.Verify and review quantity calculations for accuracy.Design and DraftingCreate drawings, perform drafting, and conduct site surveys if required.Operate electrical testing equipment to support reporting and analysis.Project Team CollaborationProvide technical direction and coordination to construction trades.Participate in project teams and assist in preparing contracts, bid submissions, and requisitions for proposals.Compliance and StandardsApply knowledge of Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical standards and codes.Maintain a strong understanding of project management principles and construction standards.Miscellaneous DutiesPerform minor tasks related to the role.Drive a motor vehicle for job-related activities.QualificationsEducationDiploma of Technology from an institute of technology or degree in a construction-related field (e.g., Engineering, Forestry, Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or Quantity Surveying).Alternatively, a related trades qualification (e.g., Electrician, Winder, Power Line Technician, General Trades 1, or Millwright).ExperienceAt least five (5) years of experience in construction and / or project management.Skills and AttributesExcellent knowledge of either Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical disciplines, with working knowledge of at least one additional discipline.Strong understanding of construction standards and codes.Experience with generation, substation, transmission, and distribution facilities.Technical expertise in construction estimating, scheduling, and costing.Proficiency in relevant software and tools for project management and design.Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.Ability to lead or participate in project teams and provide direction to construction trades.Good knowledge of accounting processes and financial aspects of projects.Basic drafting and design skills.Valid Class 5 driver's license.
