Job Description
The Freight Bill Auditing Clerk is responsible for auditing, verifying, and reconciling freight invoices to ensure billing accuracy and adherence to contractual rate agreements. This role plays a key part in cost optimization, identifying overcharges, protecting revenue margins, and supporting timely account processing. The position collaborates with carriers and internal teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure compliant, error‑free freight billing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit and validate freight invoices against contracts, rate agreements, and shipment records
- Detect billing errors such as inaccurate rates, accessorial mischarges, duplicates, and non‑approved fees
- Support and coordinate rating, audit, and billing processes across teams
- Communicate with carriers to dispute, investigate, and resolve invoice discrepancies
- Track, document, and maintain records of freight spend, variances, and billing adjustments
- Generate and present weekly and monthly freight audit performance reports
- Research and correct billing and data entry inconsistencies in freight records
- Process and manifest charter invoices and maintain updated customer distribution lists
- Monitor compliance with SLAs and service level commitments
- Assist data entry teams by providing guidance on updated policies, procedures, and audit requirements
- Perform additional administrative and audit‑related duties as required
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline
- Minimum 2 years of experience in freight auditing, transportation finance, or logistics billing
- At least 1 year of direct industry experience in trucking or logistics operations
- Solid knowledge of freight billing components, carrier charges, and transportation cost structures
- Strong analytical mindset with excellent organizational and reconciliation abilities
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and familiarity with freight audit platforms
- High accuracy, strong data management, and reporting capabilities
- Effective communication skills for internal collaboration and carrier dispute resolution
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) or ERP platforms
- Knowledge of LTL, FTL, and cross‑border or international freight billing
