The Role :
Our site in Toronto is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to join our new product development team. In this critical role, the Chemical Process Engineer is a key player on a dynamic team responsible for scaling up robust chemical processes in a manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, continuous improvement environment focused on safety and quality.
What You’ll Do :
Serve as a core team member for assigned NPI Projects and act as the liaison between Development, Engineering and Operations in order to pull products to market through a stage gate process
Work with Research and Development chemists to develop robust processes which incorporate standard unit operations, to meet stringent safety and quality requirements
Develop and manage project plans for process development activities to generate process design information for scale-up, evaluate process technical risks, and lead safety assessments with a good knowledge of PSM
Define unit operations, generate PFD’s and P&ID’s, generate mass and energy balances, specify and size equipment, facilitate equipment procurement and fabrication, and identify instrumentation, controls and automation requirements
Support operations by making decisions in the plant according to real time data to ensure the process is performing as expected, perform troubleshooting, and develop corrective actions
Manage change through cross-functional partnering in a global environment
Assist with analyses and audit processes to make recommendations on such items as safety, quality, cost, waste reductions, and efficiency
Perform other duties as assigned and be available occasionally for off-hour work and assignments
What We Seek :
Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar field
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to author standard operating procedures, deliver technical presentations in support of product proposals and champion engineering design reviews
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Motivated and self-directed team player with good interpersonal skills. Must have ability to reach out, communicate and influence personnel at all levels within the organization.
Ability to orchestrate and prioritize multiple activities at once to accomplish Division goals.
Outstanding Candidates Will Have :
Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar field :
B.S. with 8 + years of experience
M.S. with 5 + years of experience
Ph.D. with 3 + years of experience
Significant experience in a specialty or fine chemical manufacturing environment
Experience utilizing ERP systems (ideally SAP) and automation in a manufacturing environment
Handling of air sensitive or highly hazardous compounds
Experience with SPC, ISO quality standards, management-of-change for product / process control, chemical compatibility studies
Familiarity with glove box usage and protocols
Experience interpreting analytical results, such as NMR, GC, GC-MS, HPLC, among others;
Experience leading cross functional project teams and leading Lean / Six Sigma / Continuous Improvement Manufacturing projects and implementation.
