Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a Distribution Engineer for a leading provincial electrical utility. The role supports the design, analysis, planning, and operational needs of overhead and underground distribution systems at or below 35 kV. This position is ideal for an experienced P.Eng. with strong distribution engineering expertise and a background in utility environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop safe and effective engineering solutions, including design development, problem analysis, and interpretation of engineering specifications.
- Support project and operations management teams in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Conduct independent studies, prepare reports, and provide engineering recommendations that align with organizational standards.
- Perform periodic field work such as construction quality control and design compliance monitoring.
- Collaborate with senior engineering staff on complex or unusual engineering problems to mitigate risk.
- Support the operation, maintenance, repair, replacement, and expansion of the distribution system.
- Investigate and solve a wide range of distribution engineering issues using established or innovative methods.
- Provide technical guidance and support related to system operations, troubleshooting, and equipment modifications.
- Perform system analysis and contribute to planning, protection, design, and project management activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Engineering preferred).Registered P.Eng. with EGBC (or registered elsewhere with immediate eligibility for EGBC).Valid Permit to Practice and willingness to use digital signing / sealing (Notarius).Minimum 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.Demonstrated technical experience in overhead and underground distribution systems 35 kV, including automation.Proficiency with industry‑standard design and analysis software.Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong written and verbal communication skills.Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel as needed.Ability to maintain good standing with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC) throughout the contract.Preferred / Asset Qualifications
Prior utility or distribution engineering experience.Experience with overhead modeling tools such as SpidaCalc or PLS‑CADD.About MatchBox
