We’re looking for an Intermediate Civil Engineer with experience in track grading design to join our growing Canadian Operations. To be successful, you must have a minimum of 6-8 years of civil engineering, design and design coordination utilizing digital design software in rail, stations, and / or transportation facilities projects including multi-modal corridors (LRT / BRT). The Intermediate Civil Engineer will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America and GHD’s global network.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in :

  • Develop civil engineering design for different projects including site grading, track grading, roadway design, watermains, sanitary sewer, forcemains, and storm sewer based on applicable codes and standard and using relevant software such as civil 3D.
  • Contribution in the preparation of civil deliverables, drawings and details from conception to final design in a 3D modelling environment such as Civil 3D, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of sites, including linear utility modelling, site grading and site servicing plan modelling / design, road and rail corridor design and modelling, and transit stations.
  • Be able to drive design phases and implement design standards on rail and transit and linear infrastructure projects of high complexity.
  • Review and prepare models and drawings and work together with other Engineers and Designers to develop detailed drawings, quantities and various supporting documents including technical memos, specifications, scope of works, contract documents etc. completing assignments with minimal guidance from Senior Engineers
  • Collaboration with other engineering disciplines and design staff in the production of high-quality project deliverables.
  • Communication with civil leads, designers, and project team members on a regular basis to ensure effective and timely flow of project information to meet scheduled deadlines. Ensure that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints
  • Maintaining contact with sub-consultants, municipalities, utility companies and clients
  • Preparation of reports, and contract documents for review agencies, clients, and the public
  • Develop BIM / Civil3D and other modelling software capability within the team
  • Interpreting geotechnical & hydrology reports to obtain required input data to proceed civil design scope
  • Working in various procurement strategies such as Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build environments to advance civil design packages.
  • Mentoring and supervising junior and developing EIT’s and Technicians, fostering a team approach.
  • Following BIM Execution Plan and BIM project requirements throughout project lifecycle.
  • Adhering to GHD BIM standards and procedures and implementing compliance on project level.
  • Participating, when required, in advancement of GHD Standard Civil / Transportation Details and BIM Standards including promoting changes, mentor on updates to tools and methods, assisting with training development and lessons learned exercises.

What you will bring to the team :

  • Post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering
  • 6+ years’ experience in design and engineering of transportation infrastructure projects
  • Ontario designation required (or eligible) (Mandatory)
  • Proven record of site grading, site servicing, drainage and access road design using Civil3D software, preparation of plans, sections, profiles and details drawings (Mandatory).
  • Experience of using corridor and pipe network module in civil 3D. (Preferred)
  • Superior attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D. Knowledge of Bentley software such as Microstation and OpenRoads as well as other software such as Navisworks, Dynamo, REVIT are also considered assests.
  • Metrolinx and rail corridor grading design and modelling experience is considered an asset.
  • Performs complex design tasks on projects with understanding of multidisciplinary environment by collaborating with team members from other disciplines for necessary inputs
  • Experience with quality control (QA / QC) of models and drawings for standards compliance, discipline coordination
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Good understanding of level of effort required to complete the work.
  • Positive attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competency / expertise in BIM Collaboration tools . (ProjectWise, BIM 360) (Preferred).
  • Strong communication skills for team-based working environment.
  • Ability to work in multiple parallel projects and within a team environment.
  • Ability to work under and meet tight deadlines
