Purpose
This position involves leading projects, managing specialized systems, and ensuring IT solutions drive safety, productivity, and sustainability. This position is expected to be able to troubleshoot and investigate issues at a deeper, more specialized level and collaborate closely with IT specialists in Networking, Cybersecurity, Systems Administrators, and more. This position requires the ability to identify opportunities for improved efficiency, cost savings, and working collaboratively with the rest of the IT team to implement continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Business and Systems Analysis : Lead the gathering and documentation of complex business requirements from operational teams, geologists, and engineers, translating them into technical specifications.
- Project Leadership & Management : Plan, prioritize, and coordinate IT initiatives, often leading small to medium‑scale projects using established frameworks like Agile or Scrum.
- System Lifecycle Management : Manage the entire lifecycle of mining and geology systems, from initial ideation and planning through implementation, sustainment, and eventual retirement.
- Technical Support & System Administration : Provide advanced Tier2‑3 technical support for specialized mining applications, databases, servers, virtualization platforms, and networking components, ensuring high availability and performance in collaboration with dedicated Tier 3 specialists and engineers.
- Data Analysis & Reporting : Use tools like SQL, Python, and Power BI to analyze operational data, develop dashboards and reports, and provide data‑driven insights to stakeholders to improve decision‑making.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Collaboration : Act as the liaison between business stakeholders, technical teams, and external vendors to manage change, resolve high‑priority issues, influence product roadmaps, and ensure alignment on project goals.
- Compliance and Safety : Ensure systems and operations remain compliant with security, governance, and stringent health and safety standards.
- Documentation and Training : Develop and maintain technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, and end‑user training materials.
- Collaboration / Project execution : Partner with tier 3 specialists in order to assist with project planning and execution on large‑scale projects or deployments.
- Mentoring : Mentor and assist IT Support Analyst II for troubleshooting complex issues where necessary.
- Escalation : Act as the bridge between IT Support analyst II (Tier 1‑2) support and tier 3 dedicated specialists.
Training and Education
Relevant training and continuous education are essential for success in this role.
Technical Proficiency
Knowledge of databases (SQL, T‑SQL)Knowledge of Cloud computing concepts (Azure, AWS)Familiarity with virtualized server environments (VMware, vSphere, Azure on‑prem, etc.)Strong grasp of scripting / programming languages (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell).Strong grasp of entry‑medium level server and Active Directory management (Access Control, creating, configuring, and maintaining network shares, server roles, etc.).Advanced knowledge of video conferencing technologies.Analytical Skills
