Job description

Goodly Foods was created from the desire to make good food from surplus natural ingredients, and give people with barriers to traditional employment good jobs in the process. In January 2019, Goodly Foods began production and distribution of its first product, created by renowned Chef Karen Barnaby. Since then, we have become a HACCP certified food processor, launched an extraordinary lineup of new soups, expanded our distribution across BC and also co-manufactured food products for numerous 3rd party customers.

As we continue to grow, Goodly is looking for a souper passionate and caring Operations Manager to lead our Production Team to new and exciting heights. Are you that goodly to join us?

Role and Responsibilities

Accountable to the CEO, the Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for managing the entire kitchen operation of Goodly Foods. The OM is responsible for managing, planning and executing all aspects of Goodly’s HACCP food production operations (soups / sauces / stews) for our retail, food service and healthcare customers. The OM ensures food production operations are efficient, well organized, always meet food safety standards, support team members and works along them.

With the guidance of the CEO, the OM is also directly responsible for ensuring and supporting Goodly’s social purpose and mission, including :

  • Deliciously repurposing or upcycling as much surplus foods (misfit products such as misshapen celery, potatoes, carrots, etc.), sourced from local growers or producers as possible.
  • Managing all aspects of Goodly’s objective to hire, train and employ people with barriers to traditional employment.

Primary duties :

  • Responsible for managing, training and supporting all production team members
  • Responsible for daily hands-on food production
  • Responsible for overall Kitchen Operations, including Food Costing & Budgeting, Planning, Receiving, Inventory Management, Ordering, HACCP, Preparations, Production, Cooling, Cleaning.
  • Work with Goodly’s suppliers and food donors and assist in growing our pool of donor suppliers of misfit produce.
  • Work closely with Goodly’s Quality Assurance Specialist, ensuring, adhering to and managing all HACCP requirements, standards and paperwork.
  • Work with Goodly’s accounting team, uploading invoices in Dext, approving invoices through ApprovalMax.
  • Assist the CEO with managing customer relations where suitable and time permits.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Must possess 5 years of Food Processing Management experience
  • Hands on experience working in production environment
  • Valid Food Safe Level 1
  • Preferred skills, knowledge and abilities :

  • HACCP training and training certificate
  • Production Management and Systems Fundamentals (Food costing & budgeting, Receiving & Shipping, Inventory Management, Food Processing skills and knowledge suited for high volume operation, Customer Service Skills, Commercial production Cleaning)
  • Appreciation for workplace diversity and the needs of a social enterprise operation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a clear ability to work with and mentor people with barriers to traditional employment.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with MS tools and programs (Excel-Word-PowerPoint).
  • Life experience, maturity and wisdom, empathetic, personable, approachable and kind
  • Ability to provide non-judgmental support
  • Open-minded, willingness to learn from both staff and systems.
  • Ability to manage stress and work under pressure
