What You’ll Do

As a Driver / Plant Operator, you will be the expert in operating Dyno Nobel trucks and other such plant equipment in order to deliver commercial explosives products to customers in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. You will be responsible for loading and unloading all trucks, and maintain magazines, sites and inventories. Other duties will include :

  • Ability to competently complete inventory records, plus other appropriate documentation and reports
  • Possess basic mechanical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs or maintenance while in the field, deliver and off load product within DN H&S Management System procedures and practices
  • Drive / operate a range of delivery vehicles over public roads in order to move or deliver explosive products to company or customer sites in a timely and safe manner. Driving duties will also frequently extend off of public roads to include mine locations / roads, off-road field locations and other such potentially difficult terrain
  • Assist in the production of bagged explosives products in our ANFO production facility
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain safe working conditions in the shop, while driving and operating equipment and while on blast sites in order to protect personal safety and safety of others
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports concerning the handling and transportation of explosive products, including safety, and the use and detonation of explosives, in order to ensure accurate billing, regulatory compliance, and performance history
  • Apply practices consistent with company policies and procedures from applicable technical modules, SOPs, work site, and safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work accurately with numbers and perform simple mathematical calculations
  • Responsible for Inventory Management
  • Operation of rigid-frame, engine-powered machines (skid steer or equivalent)

What We’re Looking For :

  • Class 1 or 3 with Air Brakes endorsements required
  • Must be located within Nanaimo area
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • 1 or 2 years of experience in mechanical, commercial driving, explosives, or related work experience
  • Must satisfy the requirements for NRCAN Explosives Handling Permit
  • Acquire and maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications required by Federal and Provincial entities
  • Experience with Inventory Management is a plus
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English, and to communicate in writing and verbally
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Must be able to move items weighing up to 55lbs, repetitively, over the course of a working day
