Our client, a boutique, Vancouver based Real Estate Developer is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their growing business. Reporting to the Principal, the Accounting Manager will hold overall responsibility for the day-to-day accounting functions of the Company. The Accounting Manager will be required to work with different departments, external accountants, and as well as various stakeholders. The role requires a highly organized and reliable individual who can expertly manage various tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
Accounting Manager Duties & Responsibilities :
Accounting Implementation :
As the current daily accounting functions are being handled by an external firm, a key aspect of this role will be to bring this function in-house. Some specifics related to this include :
- Work with the external firm to gain an understanding of the various projects, entities, and requirements from an accounting point of view
- Discuss with Management to determine the future needs and requirements
- Perform due diligence and research to determine optimal accounting software to suit the Company’s needs and requirements
- Establish a suitable timeline for implementing the selected accounting software, along with milestones for a full transition to in-house accounting
- Determine appropriate accounting policies, procedures and guidelines as part of implementation
- Oversee the full-cycle accounting for multiple real estate development projects in the company’s portfolio
- Build out an accounting team that suits the Company’s needs and requirements
- Manage a small team of 1-2 accountants to handle all of the Company’s accounting needs
Accounting and Reporting :
Produce job cost reports, and manage monthly budget updatesPreparation of construction draws for financingHandle intercompany entries and reconciliations based on required delivery deadlinesProcess payroll, on an as needed basisOversee accounts payable / receivable clerk with vendor reconciliations and bank reconciliation dutiesReview month-end financial statementsYear-End :
Correspond with external accountants to prepare annual financial statements for all entitiesAssist and work with external accountants on tax compliance mattersAssist Management with corporate reporting to external stakeholdersHandle tax remittances, Worksafe and government document submissionsDevelopment and Accounting :
The Company’s accounting will include projects under construction as well as in various stages of developmentThe Company also has a growing portfolio of income producing properties that includes both commercial and residential components, with significant growth in residential anticipated in the coming yearsOther Duties :
Treasury functions including online banking activity managementCashflow forecasting for both corporate and property levelsProvide management with recommendations on best practices and operational processesAssist with financial analysis on real estate projectsPerform various accounting / finance ad hoc duties, as requiredAccounting Manager Qualifications :
You are an experienced professional with a strong background in full-cycle accounting within the real estate development industry. With a process-oriented approach, you are seeking positive challenges within a role that provides autonomy and the ability to collaborative within a team and entrepreneurial setting. With a comprehensive scope of responsibilities, you are not afraid to roll up your sleeves with a “can do” attitude.
Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration5 + years of experience in an intermediate or senior accounting role within the real estate property and development industryStrong proficiency with MS Office Suite; specifically with MS ExcelHands-on experience working with Yardi VoyagerExcellent verbal and written communication abilitiesHave a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy, and be able to effectively prioritize multiple deliverables and managing various competing deadlinesExceptional organizational, time management, and task prioritization skillsYou are natural problem solver having the ability to identify and understand issues that arise, and resolving them in a timely mannerPossess a self-starter approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a teamAccounting Manager Similar Job Titles :
