The Opportunity :

Intermediate or Senior Environmental or Civil Professional for our Aggregates Group.

The preferred location for this opportunity is Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, but other locations in Alberta will also be considered.

Responsible for a variety of aggregate (sand and gravel) projects ranging from prospecting, exploration, resource management plans, compliance reviews, stakeholder engagement, conducting and coordinating environmental assessments, preparing regulatory applications, and reclamation.

What you can expect to do here :

  • Develop exploration programs and supervise excavation of test pits and drilling of boreholes using various types of geotechnical drilling equipment.
  • Logging of soils according to the Canadian System of Soil Classification and the Unified Soil Classification System
  • Determine the environmental assessments required for a proposed or existing aggregate development
  • Prepare reports and applications for regulatory authorizations under the Code or Practice for Pits, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Water Act, and Public Lands Act.
  • Management of aggregate projects to meet timelines and budgets.
  • Liaison with client and regulatory authorities
  • Participate in stakeholder engagement and Indigenous consultation
  • Prepare proposals and cost estimates
  • Coordinate surveyors, drafters, lab testing, and environmental assessment support
  • What you'll bring to WSP :

  • 5+ years of consulting experience focused on aggregate projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the approval processes for the aggregate industry in Alberta, the Code of Practice for Pits, Water Act, Public Lands Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and associated regulations.
  • Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork periodically throughout the province of Alberta.
  • Competent user of the Electronic Disposition System and Digital Regulatory Assurance System
  • Registered as a professional environmental or civil engineer, geoscientist, civil engineering technologist or equivalent environmental associate in Alberta. Other technical diplomas may be accepted depending on experience.
  • Strong client management skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong financial and project management skills
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence
