Our client, an established construction company located in Southeast Calgary, has an immediate need for a Contract Controller. The Controller will work closely with the CFO, lead day-to-day accounting activities, supervise 4 to 5 accounting staff and support the operations team with reporting while providing the leadership with monthly profit and loss and legal entity reporting. This is a 16-month contract.

Your duties will include the following :

• Preparation of accurate, timely and reliable monthly and annual financial statements.
• Work with all departments to ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year-end close.
• Monthly account reconciliations, journal entries and accruals and intracompany transactions.
• Monthly and annual variance analysis and reporting on all general ledger accounts.
• Monthly and annual capital asset addition and disposal reconciliation and continuity schedule.
• Preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual financial and operational reports.
• Statutory and third-party reporting, including but not limited to GST, insurance, and Statistics Canada.
• Assist with annual budget and forecasting activities.
• Responds to inquiries from the Executive Team and Managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
• Monitors and analyzes accounting processes to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
• Assist the accounting team with day-to-day questions and provide guidance and support to accounting staff.

To qualify for this position, you will have a CPA designation, have 4 years of public accounting experience, have an entrepreneurial mindset, and a willingness to be hands-on, as no job goes undone. Experience within a construction, engineering, or manufacturing environment, with an understanding of project accounting, payroll, estimating and pricing, and operations reporting, will be a great complement.
