List of Requirements
- Completion of a certificate / diploma / degree from a recognized educational institution in Early Childhood Development, Child & Youth Care, Social Work, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with families
- Equivalent education and experience will be considered
- Experience working within an Indigenous community would be an asset.
- Successful Criminal Record Check, with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Class 5 Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract
- First Aid & CPR Certification, or willingness to obtain
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of child development
- Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
- Knowledge, understanding, and respect of Tla’amin First Nation cultural practices
- Knowledge of ʔayʔaǰuθəm would be an asset
- Good organization, time, and general management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of the community and its resources
List of Duties
Identifying and engaging families of children 0 – 6 years of age and connecting them to existing programs and services for this age groupProvides interactive and supportive information and activities related to healthy ECDIncreases community and social connections for families and childrenRefers families to appropriate programsOrganizing and implementing a regular schedule of ECD-related workshops in the areas of parenting and child development for Tla’amin community familiesIncreases the ability of families and staff to support healthy growth and development of infants and young children, in order to meet age‑appropriate growth and developmental milestonesPromotes the health, mental health, and well‑being of infants and young children and of families with childrenPromotes parent child attachmentProvides age‑appropriate group activities according to developmental stages of children 0 – 6 years of age (ie. parent drop‑in group focused on nutritious cooking, etc.)Sources and develops resources (ie. pamphlets, posters, etc.) for families and communityWorks with the Indigenous Supported Child Development team and others to increase awareness in the Tla’amin community of the developmental issues and challenges faced by children aged 0 – 6 years of ageCollaborates with other professionals of Tla’amin Nation and relevant qathet region partners (ie. members of the Early Years Planning Table) in the execution of their dutiesSupporting Tla’amin early childhood program staff’s ability to regularly participate in early childhood relevant fieldtripsCollaborates with staff to identify good field trip opportunitiesOrganizes and facilitates all details of field tripsCommunication with host facility (when relevant)Communication with families and ensuring permission forms are completedOrganizing transportationEmergency preparedness and safety measuresDeveloping and maintaining a resource program aimed at providing families of children 0‑6 years the essential resources to support healthy child development based on guidelines provided by AdminSources and purchases ECD resources for Tla’amin families in community and outside the qathet regionCommunicates clear ECD resource program parameters to each relevant familyEnsures urban families receive needed resourcesMaintains rigorous records of resources provided to familiesHas responsibility for the ECD Outreach budget and required reporting to external funder(s)Completing and maintaining accurate reports, documents, and records, while maintaining confidentiality (ie. related to grant funding)Provides relevant communication, program information, and reporting to administration and fundersEnsures all required documentation is complete on time for programmingWorking in collaboration with parents / caregivers, early childhood education staff, team members, and relevant service providers / agencies in the execution of their dutiesParticipates as an active and supportive member of the Nation’s early childhood teamParticipates in program planningSupports traditional cultural teachings and practice for children in our programs to promote healthy physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual developmentProvides supportive professional relationships with the parents, caregivers, and extended family of the children within the Nation’s early childhood programsAttends and participate in meetings when appointedAttends in‑service workshops and trainingSupports the team to support the requirements of Childcare Program LicensingPerforming all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Manager of Early Childhood Education.Performs other related duties as required.
