Job Summary
The Highway Paving Foreman, reporting to the Superintendent, is responsible for directing and managing all on-site construction workers, subcontractors, and equipment within the Highway Division. This position enforces the company’s policies, procedures, safety standards, and overall direction, while ensuring construction deadlines are met. As a working foreman, this individual will work directly alongside the crew, playing an active role in the day-to-day operations.
This is a unionized position based in the West Kootenays. This position requires frequent travel to different project sites across the region.
Main Responsibilities
Safety
- Demonstrate commitment to Terus-CWCI health, safety, and environment policies by adhering to these policies and promoting a culture of safety in all activities conducted.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work with Operations Superintendent to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Terus Safety Program.
- Uphold and comply with the principles of the Terus Code of Ethics.
Highway Paving Operations
Travel frequently to various project sites across the region, ensuring effective on-site management, coordination, and supervision of highway paving operations.Ensure the sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews.Ensure materials and equipment is available and organized.Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, and equipment.Represent the company professionally in the community and maintain ongoing good business relationship with customer base and suppliers.Read and interpret project plans and specifications.Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.Prepare and submit incident reports and WCB reports within the specific deadlines.Administer and submit daily reporting.Other duties as required.Leadership
Lead and direct crew members, equipment, and resources for civil projects, municipal products, and highway development.Ensure that all crew members follow safety measures and quality standards are strictly adhered to on construction sites.Monitor site operations and promptly report any issues to the Superintendent or Project Manager to ensure timely resolution and smooth project progress.Train and promote the development of subordinates in the best practice of operations and company standards.Apply the progressive disciplinary policy consistently and fairly among crew members if necessary.Employment Requirements
Knowledge of road construction methods, road construction materials and industry requirements.Extensive experience in the paving industry and experience in the supervision of construction crewsAbility to read and understand engineered plans and contract documentsKnowledge of union collective agreement and company policies and proceduresMust be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policiesAbility to work well with othersStrong leadership skillsValid class 5 driver’s license and clean current drivers abstractWorking Conditions

The anticipated hourly wage for this position is around $39.00 - $42.60. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
