We are currently seeking to add aJourneyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team based in Leduc, AB.

The Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic performs skilled tasks in the mechanical servicing, repair and maintenance of KBLs long haul fleet equipment (trucks and trailers). The Journeyman Mechanic will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components and maintain detailed records. This position is also responsible for apprenticing 1st to 4th year Heavy Duty Mechanics Apprentice.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Services on all equipment :

Work with Maintenance Supervisor to schedule required servicing to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime;

  • Complete necessary repairs and required maintenance as per the scheduled servicing;
  • Accurate and timely completion of work orders, including time and parts per repair
  • Task mechanics apprentices with duties for both types of service that is within their level of competency;
  • Ensure the Service A and Service B documentation is being completed in a detailed and timely manner;
  • Collect oil samples.
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection :

    • Inspect equipment as per commercial vehicle inspection guidelines;

  • Repair, overhaul, maintain any components that are broken or measure out of specification;
  • Complete all applicable documentation and file according to commercial vehicle inspection regulations;
  • Ensure there is a supply of CVIP stickers to tag inspected equipment.
  • Hot Work :

    • Welding nonstructural and non-frame components on trucks and trailers;

  • Grinding and cutting with grinder;
  • Oxy acetylene torch use;
  • General metal working;
  • Keep the shop clean;

    • Task housekeeping work to apprentices and labourers;

  • Keep tools clean and stored when not in use;
  • Manage waste generated in the shop and maintain a clean yard;
  • Ensure parts are where they should be;
  • Assist Coordinator with parts and inventory management
  • Health and Safety

    • Adhere to Health and Safety Management System, be familiar with and follow all applicable safe work practices, safe operating procedures, and safety specifications detailed in equipment manuals and manufacturers specifications;

  • Ensure that those persons assisting in the shop are also following applicable safe work standards;
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or incidents and near misses to the Logistics Coordinator in a timely manner;

    • Qualifications :

  • Must hold a Journeymans Heavy-Duty Mechanic Red Seal
  • Minimum 3 years experience working on heavy trucks and trailers
  • Possession of valid Drivers License and clean Drivers Abstract
  • Strong communication skills
  • Hydraulic and bulk solids equipment knowledge is considered an asset
  • Knowledge in inventory management
  • Self-motivator willing to work overtime if needed

    • Physical Requirements :

    This position requires standing for extended periods, in addition to walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling with occasional sitting. Must be capable of heavy lifting and moving parts up to 75 lbs on a consistent basis.

    Working Environment :

    This job will require some overtime hours. Most work is completed in our facility however there are times where you will be required to travel to complete roadside repairs in all weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be excessive and shop staff can be exposed to high temperatures, fumes, and toxic chemicals
