Our client, a well-known manufacturer in Cornwall, Ontario is currently looking for an experienced, professional Safety, Health and Environmental ( SHE ) Manager for a full-time permanent staff position
Position Summary
- As an integral part of the corporate management team and reporting to the Vice President of Operations , this role supports and oversees the implementation of standard Safety, Health and Environmental programs.
- The Safety, Health and Environmental ( SHE ) Manager will provide guidance and support to the various operating divisions including supporting the U.S.
- The role is based in Cornwall, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental Legislation at two Canadian business locations (Main location is in Cornwall, Ontario and another one in Lachine, Quebec)
- Provide support to one US business location in implementing safety programs
- Develop strategies to prevent workplace injuries
- Refine, develop and maintain organizational health and safety policies
- Influence and assist in the implementation of Safety, Health and Environmental initiatives
- Refine and manage the existing Safety, Health and Environmental process and programs
- Conduct and create training and communication for management, staff and Joint Health and Safety Committees using internal and external resources, on Health & Safety compliance requirements, including WHMIS, First Aid, Fire Plan, Fall Arrest, and Lockout Tagout.
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management on health and safety statistics and performance.
- Liaise with external agencies including the MOL, WSIB, OSHA and HSE.
- Coordinate corporate facility audits and set audit standards.
- Reviews incident trend data to identify key risk areas and then establishes and executes a plan to eliminate the identified risks.
- Act as a coach and mentor to supervisors and other staff on SHE matters and best management practices. Coordinate all related industrial hygiene monitoring as may be required.
- Manage all WSIB claims including appeal hearings.
- Initiate and maintain effective working relationships with key managers across the organization, including operations, sales, human resources and other business leaders, to assure awareness of and collaboration on issues of common concern.
Required Skills and Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, ideally in Occupational Health and Safety.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professionals) and / or CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) designations.
- Strong Knowledge of Canadian health and safety legislation and programs.
- The ideal candidate would additionally possess good knowledge of U.S. health and safety legislation.
- 7 -10 years of experience working in a leadership role within Health & Safety, ideally gained in a manufacturing environment
- Exceptional communication, facilitation & training skills in the health and safety areas.
- Analytical and strategic skills to enable the evaluation of best practice approaches to the design and implementation of SHE programs
- Proven ability driving improvements in SHE programs
