About the position
Duties
The Planner I reports to the Manager of Integrated Land Use Policy and Planning in Jasper National Park. This position is responsible for conducting policy reviews and providing recommendations to senior decision-makers, supporting Indigenous and public consultation for Parks Canada and third-party projects, and representing Parks Canada as a regulatory authority in the review of third-party development proposals. This competition will be used to fill a one-year term position ending March 31, 2027. The position is based in Jasper, AB, and temporary housing may be available for the successful candidate. A hybrid work arrangement, including weekly in-person days, may be considered for candidates commuting from outside the Jasper area.This process may also be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures and Parks Canada locations. You need (essential for the job)
Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in land use planning, geography, biology / ecology, environmental design / science or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in a related field.

EXPERIENCE : EX1 : Experience in leading planning, policy, or land use projects.
EX2 : Experience in providing policy and planning advice to senior management on issues related to protected areas, conservation, land use or development.
EX3 : Experience in conducting and reviewing Indigenous and public consultation on major projects.
EX4 : Experience collecting, analyzing and integrating environmental, cultural, social and economic data and information to inform planning and policy projects. Applied / assessed at a later date KNOWLEDGE :
K1 : Knowledge of Parks Canada’s mandate, legislation and policies related to land-use and development in Canada’s national park system.
K2 : Knowledge of best practices for Indigenous and public consultations.ABILITIES : A1 : Ability to analyze issues, develop options and provide advice and recommendations to management.
A2 : Ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders with conflicting and competing positions and interests.
