Role Summary

The BI Data Engineer will be responsible for working with the business on their requests and building BI solutions using a mix of Qlik, CUIC, R, Excel and Data warehouse. They will join the BI and Reporting team while supporting our core reporting applications to expand our current capabilities and keep consistency for our stakeholders. They will be expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as assisting the team with designing, building, and implementing data models and reporting in a variety of programs and systems. Data models will be inclusive of scripting, forecasting, dashboards design, variables, expressions, thresholds, and alerting - to meet internal and external client needs. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. The successful candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing data architecture to support next generation reporting and data initiatives.

This role requires the successful candidate to have a solid grasp on successfully working through the ebb and flow of project work as well as possessing the technical competencies to ensure reporting targets as well as departmental key performance indicators (KPI's) are met. New and emerging workflows, along with detailed client deliverables require the Data Engineer to manage several streams with agility and confidence. An effective Data Engineer is consistent, interactive, communicative and strives to improve the departments' reporting abilities through collaborative action with their team and management.

Your typical week at Maximus

  • Working with the Business Intelligence & Reporting (Analytics) team, you will design the short-term and long-term reporting strategy, with an eye on simplifying business adoption and building a business-friendly data layer tailored for Insights generation and Analytics.
  • Build data models and reports in Qlik Sense - including scripting of joins and loads, dashboards, variables, expressions, thresholds, and alerting - to meet the needs of all Maximus Canada clients.
  • Implement cutting edge forecasting and predictive solutions tailored to our business needs.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and work with Continuous Improvement to lead change.
  • Customer focus : ensure strong business relationships are built internally and externally while working on daily activities and project-related initiatives.
  • Manage your interactions with clients and colleagues respectfully, collaboratively and professionally to contribute to a harmonious, productive work environment.
  • Develop data stewardship and sharing policies and processes to monitor and analyze models, key performance indicators and data results. Recommend quality metrics. Ensure quality metrics are accurately documented and tracked. Creates and resolves data quality tickets, as needed.
  • Partner with other functional teams such as Business Performance, Application Development, Infrastructure and our data vendors across and outside of the organization to identify unsolved user and business needs resulting in data powered and visualization solutions that scale.

  • Obtain required approvals from designated personnel.
  • Document notes and actions, in our systems, that are clear, objective and useful to others.
  • Report non-compliance of policies and procedures, regardless of the cause.
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, advanced statistics or equivalent education and experience;
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in dashboard / report development with Qlik, Tableau;
  • At least 2 years' experience creating integrated data models within BI Tools, Qlik preferred;
  • At least 2 years of specific experience in forecasting models;
  • Strong SQL concepts & knowledge (PL / SQL);
  • Coding experience with R, Python and next generation BI and AI, an asset;
  • Experience with applied statistics and quantitative modeling (e.g. regression, survival analysis, segmentation, experimentation, and machine learning when needed);
  • Experience with Cisco Contact Centre Platform database and reporting structure; and
  • Advanced Excel, including charting; MS Access (VBA skills an asset).
