NURSING LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR (BAND LEVEL 10)
Memorial University – Faculty of Nursing, Happy Valley-Goose Bay Satellite Site – Newfoundland and Labrador.
Position type : Contractual sessional position (8 months per annum) until April 30, 2027.
DUTIES
- Instruct and assist nursing students in practical techniques in laboratory courses for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Collaborative) program.
- Work with the course instructor to design, prepare and teach labs and experiential learning opportunities.
- Research current evidence‑based trends in clinical practice to update lab topics and supplies.
- Collaborate with faculty and other lab instructors on content, teaching strategies, simulation equipment and lab exercises.
- Prepare teaching aids and facilitate student learning using participatory or collaborative approaches.
- Mark and grade lab reports, evaluate student performance and supervise student assistants.
- Provide remedial help and assistance to students outside formal laboratory periods.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies and ensure smooth implementation of the lab schedule.
- Ensure students are trained in laboratory policies, procedures, emergency action plans and updated safety guidelines.
- Coordinate glucometer testing, documentation training and support for clinical practice applications.
- Supervise classroom course exams and other evaluations.
- Perform other related duties as required; evening and weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
3–5 years of nursing experience, including acute care and community settings.Undergraduate degree in nursing; master’s degree preferred but an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.Certificate of Registration from the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.Strong computer, problem‑solving, verbal and written communication skills; able to work independently and in team environments.Knowledge of current nursing practices, laboratory operation or maintenance practices.Considerable knowledge in instruction, assessment and support for student learning.Teaching experience in a post‑secondary environment is an asset.SALARY
Annual salary range : $82,040 – $86,281 (CUPE Local 1615), plus applicable Northern Allowance. An upscale hiring step (Step 13) has been applied.
